I pulled the trigger just in time for one of only five Y2s being shipped to the dealer. Arrived at my mailbox in record time.

By holding it in my hand and getting acquainted with it allows me to see why many fellow Y2 owners love this folder. Michael Janich's concept and execution for this wharncliffe type blade is a well-documented feat that is validated in full when you meet the product in person and handle it as prescribed by the designer.

My only quibble (?) is an apparent issue with the blade grind near the spine, on the left side.

Could you get a picture of that grind problem in better lighting?
I can see something but its not really clear

Congrats on a fine knife....you should send it to spyderco to get a replacement..

Takes ugly to a whole new level.

But relax, I get Spyderco. I would be willing to bet that it locks into the hand perfectly and that it is very usable for its intended purpose. Still ugly as sin though.

You're right, the posted image was degraded. So I had to get creative with the shake-prone macro function on my pos camera. I hope these new photos came out better. The grind flaws I'm referring to are of course the vertical lines radiating down from the wharncliffe hump on the spine.

Extremely not normal..... contact their customer service with the pictures and they will take care of you.

That's a Golden knife isn't it? I was looking at my Golden native last night and while it looks better than that, the f&f are not as good as the Seki knives. Nowhere near as nice as Taichung. In fact the only resemblence is the hole in the blade, but then the prices are far apart too.

Is it true that Spydercos qc is lacking lately? I believe I've read that a time or two. I know I've seen weird grind lines on some knives.

Well I got a prompt reply from Spyderco:

"It’s hard to determine from the picture but it looks to be normal finishing lines, but it is hard to determine from a picture. The best thing to do would be to send it in for warranty evaluation so we can take a closer look and make a better determination."

Fair enough I guess. I'll be sending it in to see what happens. When they see that those finishing lines are different on the right side of the blade they will perhaps have a better insight into it.

I feel certain that Spyderco will look after the problem, Irminsul, but if they don't, please report back and let the membership know.

Either way it comes out, I will report back, A.P.F. Thanks to all for your suggestions and comments.

Doesn't look like it would have any effect on it's function as a knife.

It would not be an issue for me.

Big Mike

Agreed. No effect on its function. But for over $100 I do expect some basic cosmetic and QC integrity from a knife - or from any other product.
