I just got into CRK knives three months ago. My main interest is in the folders, but learning about CRK I saw the Green Beret 7" and just thought it was one awesome knife. That was my first fixed blade. Today I had the pleasure--thanks to a forum member--of picking up a "Made in South Africa" #537 Mk IV. I really enjoy old things and history so now I have a bit of both.

Ernie1980, all I got was the knife, sheath, and lanyard, no box or papers. From what I can find it was made around 1988. I found an online post of one that had a number of "5xx" and a birthdate of 8/31/88 (wish I could find that, it's one of my son's birthdate.

That's a Jereboam MK I 9" Clip point sawback made from 1985 - 1994. This was my 1st CRK Grail way back when. Still have it and love it....!!! Nice Grab. Mine did not have Box and paperwork either. Way back then, I don't think anyone realized how special they were and what CRK would become.

True, My bad. Seen the original post on my Little iphone and replied.....lol. This one is Even Rarer.....!!! Gotta love the Old SA OPK. The closest I have to this is the special edition to close out the OPK. I still miss them all.

Thanks, Nyermaker. Nice to know it's a relatively rare knife. I figured they were a little scarce as I really couldn't find much when I was trying to establish what, in my opinion, it would be worth.

Is this knife marked "Made in South Africa"? If so show me a close up picture of the marking and I will give you the birth year.

If it is not marked then it was imported into the US on or before early '87.

At a best logical guess I would say that this one was made in late '87 early '88. It was one of the knives specially made for import into the US.

It is difficult to know if it is D2 or A2, but if I had to guess I would say that it was A2. This was right at the transition period when Chris moved from one steel to another and he still had blanks of both steels.

A really nice original piece. Enjoy!:)
