Hey guys, I just got my first Ken Onion design knife and this thing is fantastic. I was first attracted to this knife by the wavy handle and blade design which is different from the usual straight or serrated tactical look. I got the black aluminum handle version and am very satisfied with it. I saw the greyish two tone handle version in a gun shop and went with this one instead after finding a good deal, but I like the all black aluminum much better. This knife comes pretty darn sharp out of the box and has a good amount of weight to it at 5oz. Assisted open works better with the flipper since the thumb stud is a bit close to the handle. Clip is black and I believe it has that anti wear coating/treatment, very flat and tactical. If you guys are looking for a good sized folder or alternative to SOG assisted openers which I also love, check this ken onion design out.

Have you tried to sharpen it yet? Is it easy? I thought it might be a little tricky with the recurve.

I actually just bought a NOS green Bump ti and immediately sent it in to Kershaw for sharpening - between the S30V and the recurve I was afraid of screwing it up. I use a Sharpmaker so my guess is the recurve wouldn't be TOO tricky, but one never knows . . .

Oh yes also wanted to mention that the on/off safety is excellent and requires a GOOD amount of force to push, so I doubt this thing will ever open up on you by accident.

If you have a sharpmaker, use the round corners, not the flats. I've never tried the DMT, but from the looks of it, it should work fine. The best thing I've found to sharpen recurves is the paper wheel system. Radius the outer edge of each wheel about 1/4 inch wide, and they will put a hair splitting edge on a recurve.

1595AL. A great knife! I have a couple of them.

I have the spec bump, with the black S30V blade; the sharpmaker works fine, but good luck sharpening in the field.

What he said :)

I free hand sharpen by sharpmaker using the rounded edges. I start by small angle and then finish off with a few runs with a large angle to get the edge just right. No need to be too hard in the end. Light touch at the finish is good enough. Strop it in the end and you'll tree top your arm hairs :)
