I have edc'd a Vic Spirit since they first came out. I have had various Leathermans but the Spirit is my favorite multitool hands down. The only shortcoming was that I was always left cold by the "butter knife" blade. It is functional but I have always disliked it nevertheless.

The Spirit X is how they should have made it to begin with. I didn't really NEED to replace my original Spirit, but dammit - this is the multitool I want!

I love my Spirit but i had to mod the serrated/butter knife blade and recently mildly modded the scissors. The Spirit would be the perfect multitool if it had regular Vic scissors and pocket clip. As it is now IMO it is only the best multitool, lol!

Foilist, I was looking just today for a Spirit X for the same reason - that stupid serrated butter knife. I have 2 other Spirits - a butter knife version and a black oxide with no scissors - but just need to get an X version some day.

I did a serration-ectomy on my original Spirit a number of years ago, and beveled the edge on both sides. That helped but I do think I will prefer the spearpoint. I always felt obliged to carry a dedicated knife along with my Spirit, but I think the X version will be great as a stand-alone.

I think my old Spirit will be assigned to my work bag since I do not wear a multitool on my belt at work, but I do pocket carry a slipjoint there.

My fave EDC today is the Spirit S (two knives no scissors). The serrated butter blade is great for steak, and since it's not pointy it doesn't freak anybody. I actually used it among non-knife people to cut my steak and nobody cared. Interestingly enough steak / silverware knives were made not pointy for the same reason. I really think Victorinox picked this shape to avoid the "weapon" image.

I thought that the tipless blade was like that to be Euro-compliant, since locking, pointy blades are a no-no in some places.

A few years ago I acquired a Spirit and gave it a trial run. Although there was a lot to like, it wasn't really a good fit for my needs. Eventually, I returned to my Charge TTi, giving the Spirit to my brother, who loves it.

Among the things I liked about the Spirit, though, was the "butterknife" blade, which I found to be an excellent cutter and not a bad compromise for general utility. Sometimes while working with it I would have preferred a plain edge instead, but that was offset by recalling other times I found myself sawing on something with a PE blade and wishing it were serrated. Despite my expectations, I never missed having a point on the blade. There is an awl on the Spirit if it is necessary to pierce something.

If the Spirit is otherwise your kind of multi-tool, give the blade a chance. You might wind up liking it more than you think.

+ 1 on the sprit would have been better if it had the regular vic scissors.

Why the heck did they do that anyway.

if it ain't broke don't fix it. The Vic scissors is perfection and cuts like a charm. I guess they thought they could duplicate it it with making a larger version.

well they failed..

i wish the chairman of VIctorinox would read our requests . Cause this is not the first time I have heard this about the scissors.

I like the butter knife design. I carry a regular knife with me all the time anyway. At least the different butter/serrated design gives me more options ,..than than duplicate.

But the scissors, YUK! How hard can it be for Viv to just put on the regular vic scissors????HOW HARD can that be???????????

I have used the large scissors on the sprit many times. Actually I TRIED using them. They just give me a headache and I have to run and look for a regular vic with the smaller scissors.

After careful research,I also decided to get the Victorinox Spirit X.Just don't like their serrated blades. What really bugs me is how so few places have the X with ratchet and tool bits or have it but it's the spirit with a serrated blade and a leather sheath, and not nylon.
