A friend has been interested in taking Missouri CCW classes for a long time, so he finally bit the bullet (no pun intended) and signed up for a private class and needed a few other people, so I decided to do it, too. I was deliberating between the XD9 and Glock 26, as well as the Kel-Tec PF9, which I heard some pretty good things about. Anyway, I sort of leaned away from the Kel-Tec because I don't see myself carrying a gun on my person that often, if ever.

The G26 didn't fit my hand at all, but the XD9 felt great. The shop we took the classes at had a used one with the two mags and some other accessories for $425, which seemed like a nice deal. For the course I had to shoot 5 rounds at 3 feet with one hand, then 10 rounds at 10 feet, I think, and 10 at 21 feet, or something around that. For Kansas you have to hit 18/25 rounds in the center mass area of a target. I was pretty proud that I hit 24/25 (I've only shot a few rounds on handguns before and have very limited gun experience in general).

I shot another 25 rounds at 20-21 feet and hit 24/25 in the acceptable range, too. It was a lot of fun, so I am pretty excited to hit the range again and get more practice. I was shooting cheap PMC ammo and it seemed to work fine. I just bought 200 rds of Winchester white box at BAss Pro for $20/box, so we'll see how that goes. There is a range less than 10 minutes from home, so practicing won't be a problem.

I tried out an 9MM XD duty model at the raahauge's range fair this year. I hit 16 out of 16 steel plates, including 3 small poppers with zero misses. It was the first time I'd ever fired one. I didn't think I could be won over from Glock but it happened that day.

Glad you took the first step even tho you don't think you will carry the Springfield. I think you made a good choice in firearms as well.

Shoot more and shoot more often...

I could see car carry, but for me, 99% of the places I go are on the "guns not welcome" list. In KS you really have to be careful, too, because of culpability if someone steals your gun from car or home. It's a terrible law, but that's what we're stuck with.

It's a .45 but a XD all the same. Great guns .

I carry the XD .45 as well. Best overall .45 I've ever shot and carried.

they are good pistols, about like a glock imho.

i have been thinking about a .45 XD myself.

Personally I would never leave a gun in a car for any reason, just to big a liability risk. There are quite a few places that have "no guns or weapons" signs on the door, I simply ignore them. In Indiana your permit says "Concealed" and that is just what they mean. My normal carry is a S&W 325PD (N-Frame), a snubbie, and a Kel-Tec PF-9 but even with all that if you saw me on the street you would know I was carrying anything at all. My thoughts are simple, the only way anyone should know I am carrying is because I had to use my firearms, other than that no one should know. It is a choice each person must make for themselves but reading the newspaper and watching the news makes it clear if you don't take measure to protect yourself and yours then nobody else will.

If you leave a gun in your car routinely, then get a lockbox made for that purpose.

When the merchant is saying by posting those "no guns allowed" signs is that THEY will protect you while you're on their premises.

In reality they're saying: We want you to be as defenseless as the rest of us.

This is very illegal in Kansas. The laws are a little blurrier in Missouri, but in Kansas you are breaking the law if you ignore these signs. For me, it's better not to risk it.

I just always figured that the only way I will be caught is if it becomes necessary for me to use it at which point it is far better to be alive and breaking a law about where I carried than it is to be dead and legal. I don't flash my gun to impress people, I don't talk about "packing" when I am out and about, I stay very low key. I haven't been in a bar in probably 20 years, I don't have "Protected by S&W" bumper stickers on my car, I don't even wear NRA hats unless I am at the range. Before I leave the house I make sure my handguns are not printing through my clothes. The only place I stop, unload, and lock up my guns before entering are military bases but these days that is a seldom thing.

It is a personal choice everyone must make on their own but I would hate to live with myself if my loved ones got killed because my gun was at home or in the car.

you can always lock the pistol in the trunk, if ya have a trunk anyway lol, my car doesnt (vette).
