Yeah. My thoughts are "You lucky (censored)!"

I love my new Police model but I feel I got a new Porsche Boxster, and you just flew by me in a newer Carerra.

P.S. Spydercos are like Porsches - "There is NO substitute."

FTC:

Give 'em a call. They might still have some. Mine is fully serrated.

Came in a cute little zippered pouch and everything.

EXECUTION STYLE,
It sure is puurrrttyy, ain't it?? I received mine about a month or two ago, but it stays safe and sound in the pouch. If I took it out and about, I'd give too many sheeple SERIOUS heart attacks!!! :D  ;)

Thanks for the info on the video, I'll have to check it out.

I'll be using mine as a backup blade in the appendix position.

WWW.JAMESAKEATING.COM would have information on the video.

I have several of Mr. Keating's videos. He seems to be good people as well. His videos are very informative. Great bang for the buck.

I have a pair of Civies, one tip-up and one tip-down. They are truly excellent instruments. With apologies to the collectors out there, one of mine is getting quite battered on the clip, where my radio pouch rubs against it. The other, though, stays safely tucked away, out of sight. Both work for a living, although I hope both stay "sitting on the bench" forever. I just recently tried a Civie for the first time a few months ago, and now I'm "Hooked"....pun intended! Civies and Harpies certainly don't appeal to everyone, but there are at least half a dozen hookbill knives around this house. (The missus likes them too.)

How did you get the tip-up version? Custom?

After Christmas, I might get another one to keep in my back pocket.

I have a BM AFCK AXIS as a primary. I have a Strider AR on B/O to replace it maybe.

Haven't decided.

The ones I have bought have two sets of mounting holes for the clip. Civies have gone though several versions; mine are C12GS with ATS-55 blade steel. A fellow forumite has the newer version in VG-10, and he told me his has the two sets of mounting holes also. His source was Glasshartt. For the left front pocket, I like tip-up with the clip on the right side, at least with the Civie, and open the blade using my ring finger, with a reverse grip, edge-forward. For me, too, a Civie is a backup. Usually my primary is Gunting in a Kydex sheath, other times a fixed blade may be primary. While home in Texas, where I carry a badge, blades back up firearms.

Thanks for you reply.

Who or what is Glasshartt?

Where is Bellaire in relation to Beaumont?

I love Texas...I always will, but the weapons' laws there suck major sphincter.

Who or what is Glasshartt?

She is a Spyderco dealer out of El Paso. The absolute BEST prices on Spydies anywhere.
Her email is Glasshartt@aol.com

Sorry, but I think that Rex would be more capable to answer that one. (I don't have a state map closeby.)

Just curious...but which weapons laws are you referring to? Enquiring minds want to know......or at least me anyway. ;)

We have a Texas state law that allows for Concealed Carry, and the legal blade length for a knife is 5.5 inches...easily allowing for legal carry of a big Spydie such as the Military, the Civvie or Police models.

oh yeah you're gonna give sheeple heart attacks with that talon of a knife. I bought my first in 97 and showed it to a bunch of fellow LEOs and they shivered and cringed too. Intimidating blade!

I have lived in Texas, Louisiana, and Arizona. I have studied the Penal/Criminal Codes of all.

I'll use Louisiana for a minute.
I can have:

Knives of any length.
I have CCW.
I can openly carry my piece. I don't though.
Vehicles are extension of the home. As such, I can conceal my sidearm within the truck.
I can have various styles of clubs...ASP's...etc.
Weapons' laws are just more lax over here for the average law-abiding Joe.

Greetings, E.S.! Bellaire is one of a little cluster of 3 cities surrounded by the city of Houston, west of Rice Unitversity. There are other cities completely surrounded by Houston, too, BTW. One claim to fame is the fastest police response time in the USA, which is good, because some of the worst parts of Houston are nearby. The Bellaire police keep the bad guys away. (I do not work for Bellaire PD.) Louisiana does have some good weapons laws, and the remnants of the Napoleonic Code help in that regard. I was not sure about knife length, but that is good to hear. It seems Louisiana is one place where a Bowie may still be legal to carry? The vehicle being an extension of the home is one part I really like. Texas will recognize a Louisiana CCW permit, reciprocally. I really should get my Texas CCL, for the times I travel out of state to the ones that recognize Texas permits. I do not need it within Texas, since I am a peace officer, which, BTW, means I can carry any type of knife, including autos.

True, I just recently inquired with local LE that a Bowie is in fact legal in NH but you may not have any length dagger?:(

Daggers are illegal in so many places because they are by nature and definition an offensive weapon. A Bowie is an excellent utility blade, but even so, many states have specifically named Bowies as illegal. A good skinning knife and a hatchet, can, together, handle the utility tasks that true Bowie can handle alone. In Texas, Bowies are legal if the person is participating in a historical reenactment or similar event, but not for general carry in public places. I find it interesting that Bowies seem to be legal in Louisiana, since that is the state I visit most often, but I still wonder about concealed carry.

Hey there E.S. Never got serious about the boar hunting, but good to see you!

I have one of the "original" Civilians - I'm curious as to how rare they are, and what it is worth. I have the little case, THREE clips, and a letter that came with the blade. I would like to learn how to use the knife - obviously the traditional methods do not apply.

Does anyone know what the original Civilians are worth???

Just purchased a Spyderco Civilian from a fellow forumite here, and had contacted 'satin', aka 'Morgan Atwood' about having him do a 'wave conversion' before I even received the the knife...

Don't know if he does this on a regular basis, but was willing to do mine for a 'barter knife'; as he seemed to have no interest in money for the effort...

Should be here soon I've been told, in the mail if you will, as of yesterday...(Morgan is a good dude btw, a very cool fellow)

As to reversing the clip for 'tip up' carry, for the most part, I'd suggest that find someone that's done this before, or have Spyderco do it...

Your local machine shop should be able to drill and tap new holes on your Civilian (or any other knife with metal liners/handles) without any problem, and for no more than $20.

The Civilian is a tres cool blade, and an excellent fighter design. Nothing like it.
If you can, get Jim Keatings tape on the civilian, its great - top notch material for anyone with a Harpy, Spyderhawk, Matriarch or Civilian.

I went to my buddy the gunsmith to have him drill & tap my newly aquired G-10 Civilian but he didn't have the correct size tap.Anyone know the proper size to re-use the original screws?I think he said a 356 fine thread.Thanks.tom.
