I just got a Strider RCC Sat (satin blade) from LA Police Gear and here's my initial impression. It came in a plastic bag, no box, no papers, etc. Seems strange to me but maybe that's how Strider saves money. I trust LA Police so I'm sure it was new. The knife was dirty, after holding it a bit, I had grey dust on my fingers. I cleaned it up and oepned it several times. It opens nicely but the liner lock is so tough to unlock that my thumb is throbbing now. I put some Wilson gun grease on it and worked it a few times. Still tough to unlock. I hope it gets better. The fit and finish seem good. It is a stout knife, .156" blade, gunner grip G10, titanium liners, etc. Overall I like it but disappointed in the liner lock, obviously not tested before leaving Strider, or if it was, poor quality control. Here's a couple of pics from the net of the RCC.

Bummer (I think?). Sounds like overall you are not satisfied... Im interested to see what other owners have to say.

Sure is a pretty knife though.

Those stiff liner locks are a good thing in my book and both my AR's have them. That stiffness assures me that the liner is less likely to slide off the blade tang on its own. But with use it should smooth up at the lockup point so there is no sticking of the lock. Oil will cause it to stick worse. Clean off all oil and use a pencil and mark the blade tang so that it is covered with the graphite. This should solve any sticking problems. As far as the stiff liners go, they will be stiff from now on as one of the properties of titanium is it's memory, being able to spring back 100,000's of times!

Btw Muddog, the way your knife came to you is the way most are shipped. The customs and some of the other hi dollar Striders come in a pouch with the Strider patch. Just curious, but how thick are the liners on the knife?

Stiff unlocking can be a cover for poor lockup geometry, but then I'm a prejudiced. :)

Give us a pic of your lockup.

I have a framelock with ghost grips, an SmF I think, (I always have to look it up to figure it out, and I dont feel like doing that right now) that has a stiff lock up too. It got better. The thing that really bothers me is that the only 20% of the lock touches the blade. It alwasy seemed to me that the blade stops 1/20th of an inch before it should... but while that bothers me from an aesthetic/ Prussian point of view it has always worked very well. I've never gotten to look them up online to see if my blade is supposed to have the slight forward cant that it does...

I guess Striders are still selling out, otherwise I dont know why they dont invest in a little more QC to really boost their appeal.

My RCC has a stiff liner, and an occasionally sticky lock. That may wear in over time. Personally, I'm with cutter17. I like the stout frame and stiff lock. My SnG is also stiff w/o and sometimes sticky, esp. if I open it hard.

The Strider web site has a FAQ section that talks about how the lockups are designed. If I understand what you're saying about where yours contact the blade, that's how it's supposed to work. Both of my Striders are like that. The blade stops at the top of the handle and the lockbar at the bottom of the blade make up the two wide points that Strider wants for their lockups. I've never had any trouble with either of mine during use.

The AR I've had for a couple of years now has a lockup that is left of center and I'm guestimating there is about .095" to .100" of the blade tang that remains. It has been locking up at this point for the last year, so I think it has found it's sweetspot. The new AR I just received locks up where the left side of the blade tang is level with the left side of the locking bar. It will probably wear over to about the same spot as my other one. With the blade tang being concave, the lockbar will have to wear a lot before it would move over anymore, and that is in reference to the first lockup I described. Remember that the liners on the AR/GB series are .100" thick, which is framelock thickness for some knives. Just think of that stiff liner as an extra safety device!:D:thumbup:

Cutter17, the graphite seems to have smoothed it out a lot, thanks for that tip. I think it will be fine now. The liner lock side is about 1/16 thick. The other side is 'real" thin. The G10 scales are 1/8" thick. Guys, Thanks for all the input.

Glad it worked for you. You may have to do it several times over the next few days until the graphite is sorta imbedded, and from one NC boy to another......Good luck!!

It should get better with use. If it doesn't...send it back to Strider to fix.

Norf.....Cack-a-Lack in da house! :D

We live in a great knife state. New Graham is bout an hour away from my house, as is a sweet shop in Cary..... and Davis Gun and knife is about 45 mins away ( they have most of the ALL the productions out....and a full case of customs:D.)

Also .....NC blades is about 20mins from my house:D.

Its very easy for me to buy knives in person, thanks to living in Norf ...Cack-a-Lack. :D

And..... Yes its 3:14am here.

The joys of having a iPhone......and a new baby girl :D.

I keep thinking I will get down to Cary but I haven't yet. I do look forward to it though!
