Hello, this is my first post but I've been following these forums for years. I never buy a knife without researching it here first.

Anyway, I just got this monster knife and the jimping on top is very sharp. When I use the flipper it is unpleasantly sharp and unavoidable. Any suggestions as to how to smooth it out a bit without ruining the looks of it?

besides that, it's a fun knife. Maybe a little too big for an EDC. I have the 0801 which I used to think was a little too big, until I got this one, lol. Now the 0801 seems kinda perfect. Thanks in advance.

A very fine sandpaper applied across the sharp edges will reduce the damage to your finger without utterly destroying the crisp appearance of the machining.

Your username is Smedley Butler and you're complaining about pain in your fingers? I think you just need to cowboy up a little:D

In all seriousness though, a little file work around the ridges of the jumping will soften it up a bit. Be aware though that modifying the blade like that will likely void your warranty. Another option is to sell it since you don't carry it that much and buy something you like better.

What does not kill you will only make you stronger, or give you calluses.

I have a 300, I don't have that problem and I have office worker hands now. Don't you just use your index finger to flip it? I would say don't modify it just yet. Use it for a while and see if you get used to it.

I have since switched to the 560 and the 560BW as that model is way lighter.

Ha! Thanks guys. Yeah, General Butler might think I'm a wimp, Paris Island was 31 years ago for me! I love the knife even tho it's useless for any practical purposes. Trust me, this isn't just s little sharp, it's slice your finger sharp (hasn't stopped me from playing with it all day long). I just wanted a little advice how to best fix it without ruining the cool look. I'll try the sand paper, thanks.

I've bought a bunch of awesome knives in the past few months, the ZT's are some of my favorites. I'm going to check out the 560 now.

Whoever moved this thread to the proper spot, thanks.

I like the 560 very much. They're the two knives above the 301. I just got a third one to keep NIB. I almost bought one that was for sale here that was the first version with the combo metals for the blade but i can't justify buying it and not use it.

Just know going in that you will remove the coating when you do this. I would also start higher than lower, 1000 grit or higher would be my recommendation. A buffing wheel and compound is another method but for safety it's best to disassemble and buff the parts individually.

I did a similar thing to the G-10 scale, where the blade stops (thumbstuds) contact the frame when opened. There was a rather pointy (sharp) right angle to the G-10, so I sanded it a bit rounded with fine sandpaper. I'd be a bit leery of voiding my warranty by "modifying" the blade, even through simple rounding of the edge.

You could try holding the knife closer and further down in your hand so your index finger tip is wrapped behind the flipper and pull the flipper. No impact of finger tip on wicked grooves.
