..yesterday while getting my truck smogged.
My thoughts were to buy a knife that was not my normal type of knife I would buy , after looking at several Benchmades I came to the conclusion that I did not think most of them were worth what the hardware store was selling them for. Great steel aside , they just were not "all that", IMO , but I liked the Apparition the best out of them all so I paid my dough and away I went.
The first thing I noticed is that the F&F was pretty sloppy , I expected more from a Benchmade, the fake horn scales are absolutly horrid and will be replaced with wood , probably Gaboon Ebony. ( why they did not go with G10 in the first place is beyond me , this plastic looks cheap as well as fake)
Most impressive was the AO , the knife opens with authority but I do wish the blade had a flipper on it , I am afraid I'm going to cut my thumb upon opening this knife one of these days using the thumbstud. I was also impressed with no blade play what so ever, the lockup however..... If this knife is designed to be tactical , why the skinny little lockbar with not much torsion ?? I have doubts that this lockbar will stay hard during use , something I will try to rectify before reassembly.
Right now it sitting on my cutting board in pieces waiting for some TLC , many parts with get a polish , I will post pics when I done with new scales and etc.
