Oh come now, lets not take the 21st away from Dan, it has been his a whole lot longer than mine ;) :D

And how am I spending it? Waiting for a 4' tube of thermoquench salts to finally get to temperature! It takes HOURS to reach 400F. on the first day of winter in Michigan!

Happy Birthday, Kevin!

Hopefully we'll be able to send you another warmer day or two from the other side of Lake Michigan. It's up in the 30s today after those couple of colder days.

Happy birthday and enjoy your day with your saltpot. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll get to lick the bowl after your blades are done. :D :barf:

Have a good one Kevin.

I whish I had your HT set up. I would love to try to do some marquenching. One of these days I will redo my salt pot set up to make some thing a bit more durable and incorporate the low temp salts and an oil tank into a whole HT roll around rig.

I won't lick the bowl! I tried licking off the beaters after mixing once and left most of the skin off my tongue on them, didn't really smell all that good :(

When you figure out the durability thing let me know. Something about 1500F salts, ans subsequent moisture, that kind of tears up any metal in the surroundig area. Like I said, in the new year perhaps we can put our heads together and figure something out.

Hey! I am up to 380F. with a conical chunk in the bottom. At this rate I may be able to light the high temp unit at around 8:00 tonight :rolleyes:

HAPPY BIRTDAY BRO >>>-------->:D :D :D <--------<<<

Only one candle, I like that. My son drew a picture of a cake in a card he made for me, it only had two candles. He said he couldn't draw all the candles on the paper for it to be correct :( .

Right now my salt set up is pretty rickety (sp). Just a SS pipe with ceramic fiber insulation around it and enclosed with some thin sheet metal. Everything is just kind of held down by gravity. Dangerous, yes, but just don't knock it over and everthing will be O.K. ;)

I need something more sturdy. I gues durable was a bad choice of words. I don't know what exact alloy of pipe I have but it seems to be holding up well. It is 0.375 wall and about 3.5 O.D. I got it at a scrap yard for $1 per pound so i couldn't pass it up. My guess would be 304, but it would be nice if it was 316 for added corrosion resistance.

I think between the two of us (hopefully get some input from the other MI Makers) we can come up with something nice.
