Just got another GEC.

I just got another GEC. Nothing of real news, but for me it’s significant. Some of you may recall that I was so disappointed in a GEC knife I purchased that I shied away from further purchases. In all honesty, that knife was that bad. But I have come to taking another chance with GEC, and a while age I got another 23 from a forum member here and that one is a very good knife for me. So again, I forged ahead and acquired another, got this one from that auction site and this one is also a very good knife. I’ll look at that first 23 pioneer as the one that slipped through the cracks and is not representative of GEC.
And a little novelty about the knife I just got, it’s a #42 stainless blade with elk. The novelty of this particular knife is that it is the actual knife GEC photographed for the picture they use on their website under their link “all of our patterns”.
There will be more GEC’s in my future.

Added a picture.

They make a good knife, but sometimes one slips through. They have excellent customer service for those that slip through.

Very nice:)

I have a #42 stainless Missouri Trader that Phil was kind enough to gift me a bit f time back. I love the larger size and the flatness makes for a very handy pocket knife. I can't tell how many times I've been complimented on it. Both because of the knife itself and the story behind it. It's currently my only GEC, but its more of a budget thing than anything.

I'd really like to get a Beer Scout before they dry up:p

GEC makes wonderful knives, but they are not perfect, popular opinion notwithstanding.

For all the hype, they should be perfect. That said, I like the ones I have, but for users I prefer Case.

That's a beaut, and the story makes it even sweeter. Save any documentation you have on it and the story behind it. Someday it'll be very important.
Thanks, Neal

That's unreasonable. Not even Tony Bose makes a perfect knife, and his stuff is among the best ever made.

I hate it when the term perfect is used. Excellence is one thing, but perfection? Nothing made by the hands of man will ever approach it.

Never had a problem with GEC but when dealing with production knives anything can happen and anything can slip through QC.

Wonderful American Elk scales there.

I'm glad you found quality, but I'm also glad that when you found a stinker you told it how it is, it serves nobody's interest to pretend stuff is wonderful, when it isn't. And I'm a GEC enthusiast but never an uncritical worshipper of anything.

Thanks, Will

My high school football locker room used to have a sign above the water fountain that read, "Perfection is not obtainable, but if you chase perfection you will catch excellence."

The stainless 42 is one of the best knives GEC makes IMO. Closest thing in functionality to a modern folder in my collection, with all the traditional style to go with it.

I find that I really like the 4 1/4" size of the 42.

Absolutely right!

Great looking knife. Every Case I've bought has had BIG flaws. Not a high number but, 2 for 2 is a high rate of error. I get along very well with GECs.

I enjoy how antler has finger prints. The evidence doesn't lie.
