Just got back from a gun show

I usually don't go to the gun shows, but have just recently bought a little 40 cal auto and needed a holster for it. So when ever I go to any kind of a show I load myself down with knives, either trading material or something I just like showing off to others that would appreciate them. Anyway, looking at one of the few tables with any decent knives, the table owner comes up and see's my Large Sebenza and asks to see it. After looking at it he offers to make a trade and pulls out a DDR Maxx. It has a blade length of 41/2" but the blade shape is almost that of a BM 942, a sort of reverse tanto but with more of a "wave" to the blade right before the tip. Also it has small stones (garnets?) covering the screws in the titanium handle. And finally on the opposite side of the DDR emblem there's an engraved #6. In trade for a Lg decorated Classic Sebenza, did I lose out? I need some opinions!

Burk,

Any time you can trade a factory knife (especially something as common as a large decorated sebenza) you will generally come out ahead.

Just got done looking it up, looks like its a Madd Maxx Bullnose, one of the first 10 made for True North Knives. Its not mint, a scratch on the blade and looks like its been sharpened, but you're right it was definitely a trade up. Looks like I had a good day at the gun show.

Only thing is, I used the Sebenza, not sure that I'd be willing to use the DDR.

Burk,

Why not use it? It's already scratched up.

Might as well use it for a year or so.

Then send it back to Darrel, toss in a few bucks for clean up and shipping and "Viola"

Your knife is back to mint condition!

Don't you just love custom knives!

Go ahead and use it. Les has it dead on. Use it for awhile and then if you think it needs refurbishing send it to Darrel.

I think you did real well for yourself in that trade. As much as I like the Sebenza, I think the Madd Maxx is a better knife.

Are you sure about the blade length? If I am not mistaken, the Madd Maxx comes with a 4", 5 1/2" or 7 1/8" blade. There is also the new Mini Maxx with the 3" blade.

You're right, its 4". On a Maxx its not readily apparent where to measure blade length.

Les is on the money. As it happens, I've got both a Mini Maxx and a large lefty Sabenza. The Seb was bought second hand and I had sent it in for refurbishment. Damn if it didn't come back just like new!

Both Maxx and Seb's are made from makers who will help you keep the knife in tip top shape for years and years. Snazzy production and customs cost more, but you get more knife and - the semi-intangible of more service and support.

The stones set in the handle are interesting. I pre-ordered one of those knives and checked the web site periodically while I waited for it, and I never saw any mention of stones. You might want to ask DDR about that.

Just talked to DR and he categorically, flatout said that he never put any stones in one of the Bullnose Maxx's. Now I'm debating whether or not to have 'em removed. They're not original but do look sorta good.
