Was out batoning some wood with the BK4, and stupidly used my left hand to steady the log a little too close to the top as I swung the 4 down to stick it in place...

THWACK! A deep diagonal cut right behind my index finger knuckle, almost to the bone! Definitely gonna' need stitches, but as I can move the finger, I don't seem to have hit a tendon

More posting later after I'm out of the emergency room...

Ethan, your BK-4 is one vicious cutting machine, I love it, although my left index finger may not....
;)

Pic of wound after 5 stitches;

I sure am happy you didn't put some ass in that stroke..... Whew!!!!.... I effing HATE it when I do things like that....... I hope you heal up real quick......

Ouch.
To bad it didn't hit bone, you get 10% off your next Becker when you hit bone.
Show a little more commitment next time.
:) just a little snark, hope it heals ok.

you went and got stitches for that? that's a long ways from your heart; some gauze and black tape would have fixed that

Its funny, here's my thought process after the cut....

Wow, that's a clean cut, that BK4 has an awesome edge...
Cool, I can see inside the cut, looks like lean meat inside there...
...crap...probably gonna need stitches...
Why isn't it bleeding yet?
Oh, there it goes, bleeding quite a bit, still no pain though...
Get direct pressure on the wound now!

I go inside, wrap a doubled up gauze pad and use painters tape as a makeshift bandage, I then pick up the BK4, see blood on the edge, as I wipe it off, my niece asks "why are you handling the knife again"

Well, there's blood on the edge, don't want the edge to rust...
(Sage rolls her eyes...)

As far as why stitches? The cut was deep, almost to the bone, had I actually put some strength into the swing, I could have amputated the finger....

A twig held in the weak hand will hold the target upright and twigs usually do not bleed...... I taught myself that tric after a bleeding almost miss.....

Is it not interesting that the bleeding sometimes is delayed like that..... Wonder why......

I hope the pain has diminished to nothing.....

The only pain I felt from the cut itself was about 10 minutes after the cut occurred, and was more of a dull ache, there was more pain from the lidocaine injection, and the stitches than from the actual cut, right now the stitched area is sore, but I have a high pain tolerance anyway....

The 4 would be one vicious self defense knife... Heck, the act of drawing it from the sheath would probably scare off any perp that wasn't on drugs....

Perhaps in the next Friday the 13th movie, Jason Voorhees should be using a BK4... ;)

a little bactine will be good :>

or maybe vaseline

Nasty, a bugger of a place too, had one similar (no stitches though) just remember having limited ability to bend that finger - sucked big time. Anyway cool battle scar.

There is that second of realization, then the blood, then the pain. Thankfully it has been a while. Sorry to see the bite bud.

Dang, I've done something very similar. Got three stitches. Lemme tell ya you'll be careful next time! I hope it heals quickly and doesn't leave too much scar tissue!

During a first aid course I was told that a clean cut causes blood vessels to initially contract and restrict the bleeding, until they relax again shortly afterwards. A jagged cut or tear doesn't allow the vessels to constrict so just bleeds from the outset. I guess you should take it as a compliment :)

OP I hope it heals up well.
