I was on Bladeforums tonight - nothing else open and just got hit with an encryption code bug - had all my files encrypted. I will have to do some looking around and see if anyone has decoded this one. Word to the wise.

I'd like some more information, if you can spare a moment.
It's an intentional virus? Or a software bug?
What were the symptoms, how did you know? You can no longer open your encrypted files?

I was just reading about these a few days ago. It's a type of virus that encrypts all of the files on your hard drive. A message pops up with instructions for payment instructions to buy the encryption code for either single files or all of them. Scumbags...

Sorry you got hit with one Steve. I hope you're able to recover your files, and that its not related to this site.

Ransomware is what it is commonly known as. Unfortunately, it can most often be the result of cookies and redirects from "other" sites. I would not think BF would redirect you. I've repaired many machines with a "Lock Out" screen. It is simple to fix, if you would like some help shoot me an email.

Thanks Rev - I had this happen one other time. There is usually someone that has instructions on decrypting on the web. I don't keep that many files on the home computer, so its not that big of a problem - I have everything important backed up. Bob - Steve pretty much hit it on the head as far as what this is - The site I used to undo the last one explains that your files are not really encrypted but just locked out as Rev commented. I probably was on a site I should not have been on (yeah, I know) and am sure it isn't related to BF. My fault also for not keeping my firewalls current.
