Picked up my BK 16 yesterday, then went on a knife sharpening binge to celebrate! Having given most of my knives to family and friends, I only had twenty-five left, most Ka-Bars and now, my Beckers... Oh, there are others, but outside of my ZT's and an Emerson, they're second tier...

First upgrade to the new boy? A Swedish fire steel, now residing in it's sheath pouch. Next? Saving money for appropriate sheath by the Welke's, of course!

Now, about my knife sharpening binge yesterday... Used my Work Sharp WSGSS Guided Sharpening System, for scary sharp, and today, will finish off with my Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener, Ken Onion Edition... With the last, I'll go to shiny sharp... Can't wait! Takes me back to when I used to reload... Loved it almost as much as shooting!

Now, thinking about a BK 3, as possible next acquisition... I think it's a viable choice, as it does lots of different things- as long as you NEVER, EVER forget, that ALL engineering is a compromise...

Maybe next week, The Warrior! My daughter will be back in town then... She's tech savvy. Me? Not since my stroke in '14...

Damn. Well, I'm just glad you're still here, and the fact that you can enjoy your hobbies and hang out on the forum with us reprobates.

Strokes are no-kiddin', serious sorta stuff. Freaks the hell out of me.

The Sixteen is one of the most favored of my children.... I hope you enjoy her and work her like a rented mule.....e

Mr. Becker, your 'Sweet Sixteen, is part of my EDC... Thanks for designing her... God Bless You and Yours, Sir!

Mr. Becker, I just ordered my second BK16, with Ka-Bar BK16HNDL Becker Micarta Handles for Short Becker Knife, Green, to finish her off... BOTH, in addition to other things, will be the basis of EDC... Too bad Ka-Bar didn't continue with your magnificent BK5... Do you have anything in the pipeline that would be comparable?

Again, Sir, God Bless You and Yours, and thanks again for designing the BK16, as well as all of your other superb knives... (I have the BK9, BK10, BK13, BK16 (soon 2), and more to come...)

Agreed:

Well, it's not hard to go with the belief that Becker knives are beautiful- regardless of number!

Thanks for the kind words.... I have to say that the Five is one of my great disappointments....... The thing works so well at so many things, chops waaay above it’s weight and is a proper beast around camp and it freaking refuses to sell...It was in the line for ages through three different manufacturers and although it’s design was the brainchild of one of America’s most distinguished designers, the great Jerry Fisk it did not sell.... The marketplace is rarely wrong but, in this instance it has confused the hell out of me...... Every time this comes up I get cornfused all over again.....

All best..... e

Mr. Becker, thanks for your rapid response, Sir...

What knife is in the Ka-Bar/Becker lineup that is most like the BK5? Until getting my BK16s, my typical loadout for EDC was my ZT301 and ZT303. Then, at 68, I got "smart," and have only acquired Beckers and Ka-Bars... All this is predicated upon my EDC of two Sig P226 TACOPS, of course. Will still continue that practice, as long as I'm able, but as far as blades go, I'm leaning toward my two BK16s... As much as I love my ZT's, I prefer the lighter, stronger BK16... Too, the BK16 is more applicable towards survival, in all modes, vis-à-vis the ZT's... I must admit, the Becker phenomena I've been exposed to here, is, indeed, highly addictive... In a SHTF situation, my BK9 and BK10 will take precedence for "serious social difficulties..." For now, not having the ability to acquire the BK5, though it's in my "wish list," I have a "Bacon Maker," (JAB #5601) from Ka-Bar's Adventure line... Love the design, just wish it had G10 scales, like on my BK9 and BK10...

Thank-You, again, Mr. Becker, for your superb works of "functional art." I'm sure that you've saved many lives, and your works will continue to do so...

I eagerly await your next designs, Sir.

God Bless You and Yours, Sir...

I feel for you, exRonin1949 exRonin1949 . Your appreciation/fondness of the BK5 is not dissimilar to mine for the BK20 (also out of production).

Did you ever try the link I sent you via PM? The price was reasonable and the blade is sweet...

(I call the pretty one “The Queen”).

Aye, GeofS, I did look, but my wallet was temporarily bare... Doctors appointments for me, and for my pups, put the kibosh on that... It's still in my plans, as is another Bacon Maker...

Knives from Ka-Bar/Becker are an addiction... Certainly more sane, than Corvettes, or much younger women... At my age, the feel of a superb blade is most satisfying... The others? Never liked fiber glass, and looking like a cousin to Uncle Fester, precludes the last... *Sigh* Life is, what it is...

Thanks for sharing your magnificent, most regal, functional art! The Queen is resplendent in her finery! Yuh know, the design of those wondrous blades is timeless beauty... Well done! The "crossed swords" placement is powerful, and thoroughly arresting... Again, Well Done!

I appreciate the kind words, good sir. :)

The 5 and 15 are my favorites ... have 3 of each ... really enjoy the 9 too ... I can't believe the 5 didn't sell like mad ... it can do so many different things so well.

I really like the 5 a lot. A nice blade for slicing. The full tang design and beefy build of the Becker line, makes them perfect for chopping and batoning. So those style blades sell well.

Most people already have good slicing knives, of less solid build quality, but a slicer doesn't have to be built like a tank.

So in the end, the people who are going to buy the 5 are the ones who are dedicated to Becker knives.

In other words, there are a lot of good slicers out there, and the market is saturated.

Ethan the 5's lack of popularity, is not because of any design flaw. Just a reflection of the market.
