I got for $37 shipped on eBay, couldn't resist. I must admit, I've always been more interested in this type of multitool as opposed to the SAK type. I had the Vic Explorer and 2 Huntsmans, but gave them away for birthday gifts, otherwise I wouldn't have. I only have a small Vic on my keychain now. 2 questions for everyone today:

1) Best way to remove rust?

2) Am I missing out by not getting the newer version?

Firts of all congrats, great choice you wont be dissapointed.

My advice:

1) WD40 or Breakfree CLP with 0000 steel wool and toothbrush.

2) The only thing that comes to me is the pocket clip that comes very handy when you don't want to wear the sheath in your belt.

Truth be told, I like the old Wave better. The interchangable bit driver (with WAY too stubby of screwdriver bits) just doesn't do it for me.

I also prefer the scissors on the old Wave.

Congrats & Great find! I still have my old-style wave, I keep it in my BOB just in case. Although I EDC a Surge, I've always loved my old wave. For removing rust I go with Tango 44's suggestion with the WD-40 and the steel-wool and the tootbrush for those hard to reach places. After that, I remove all the excess with a piece of absorbent cloth like a plain cotton shirt, when I see all the rust and grime is removed, or at least minimized, I lubricate it again with the same WD-40.

Lastly, I don't think your missing out too much from the newer version. It will really depend on what daily use you will have for your new multi-tool.

At that price, No. There are some differences, (like bushings for the thicker blades and locking implements) but the old wave is still a very good multi. I still have my old wave, but don't carry it much any more.

Congrats on a great find.

Thanks for all the advice people. I didn't have any steel wool around, so I used an old tooth scraper (don't know what it's officially called) instead. It worked great and I was able to get into some small areas I wouldn't have been able to with a toothbrush or steel wool.

The old wave is still my favorite leatherman. Along with my juice pro. And micra. :D :D
