Well... my first post over here was my unhappiness with the F1 handle. It just wasn't comfortable in my hand. After much research, I went with the Bark River Gunny.

WELL!!!!! It's perfect.

The Grip is perfect, the blade is perfect, the sheath is perfect.

My initial impression is ....well.... um.... It's perfect!! I ordered a canvas micarta handle. Love the way it looks too.

It's making want to order a bravo-1 too!! The reason I got the smaller one is I wanted a lightweight knife. But I think I'll find room for both in my life.

Congrats on the new BRKT and glad to hear you found a knife with WOW factor for yourself.

My Bravo 2 just arrived today. Haven't had a chance to look it over real well yet, but looks like it's going to be a great knife.

I am in the process of compiling a full scale Gunny review. It will be posted in the Wilderness Survival forum, hopefully tomorrow. This knife is amazing and absolutely perfect in every way. You got a real awesome knife bro. Use it in good health, and don't touch that convex edge to a stone. Make sure you use a loaded leather hone. :)

Thanks everybody. And yeah... I need to learn... this is my first convex edge.
Anybody want to pass some advice on their favorite methods??

I'd like to have a home sharpener, and a travel one to keep on me for trips.

Thanks!!

Bro, here are a couple links. Take everything you know about sharpening and throw it out the window. Convex edges are remarkably easy to maintain and polish screaming sharp. The best part? You can sharpen ANY knife on a leather hone. A leather hone is basically a piece of leather glued to a piece of wood and then colored with a sharpening compound. Derrick has all the sharpening supplies you need. Best off, the compound you order will last you the rest of your life. It is a one time purchase.

Look here.

If you have any more questions, I also have a couple youtube vids on sharpening. I go by wildediver on youtube.

Congrats! I'm lookin to pick one up sometime soon. I have the B1 and it's my best/favorite knife so far (just got a NWA Sierra Scout, have yet to try it out but it looks like it might take the Top Dawg spot) Looking forward to a lighter more portable version.

Definitely check out the videos by Tradja on KSF, and look at the BRKT Collectors Association's guide to sharpening the BRKT way

Twin and RKS ... thanks for the links. That looks perfect, and so easy!! I'll be ordering one of those for home.

Any recommendations for a small portable field sharpener? Or will this knife just hold an edge so well... I won't need one!!

Well, I will let you be the judge of that. I am uncertain your use level, but I have found I do not need a sharpener in the field. I reviewed the Bark River Smoke Jumper here...

Smoke Jumper

After all that, it still shaved hair fairly well. Bark Rivers A2 like you have on your Gunny will hold a little better edge than the 50-100B on the Smoke Jumper.

If you find you need a field hone, Derrick has those as well on the same link I gave you earlier. A lot of people miss it because they see the big hone and miss the little field kits. :D
