I'd like to thank Uncle Bill for providing me with my first Khukuri. I think I might me hooked! As soon as I got home yesterday, I tried it out on some branches that were about 3" thick. No problem. I've never handled a blade so thick and heavy, but I like it.. I think the knife is totally cool. One question I have is what do the characters in front of the design on the blade mean?

Thanks again Uncle Bill!

Uncle Bill, I kinda like the idea of sticking with HI. After all, HI gave birth to the entire operation -- without HI, there would be no BirGhorka.

Gelbu fell in love with the name. I believe because it was his own creation. He is the one suggesting the change but I think you are right, Steven, that logo has been on HI blades for 8 or 9 years now and I don't think it is a good idea to change it.

Khukuri FAQ

Rhett,

Glad Uncle Bill set you up with a HI. I have a BAS and it is a nice starter. The more you use it, the more you will want some other khukuri. If you like how the BAS chops, wait until you try out a heavier one!

Pick up an AK when they come in - You will LOVE it.

Sounds great. I have a BAS on order, should come soon. I already have a 15"AK and really enjoy it. It's a great camp knife.

Anybody else have a BAS? What do you think of it?

I have the 15" AK and gave the BAS to my father. Of the two I prefer the AK. It works harder! The BAS is more of a packing implement. Although, next time I go to the Emigrant Wilderness I think I will take my 15" Sirupati. It may not chp as well as either of them, but it's a LOT lighter!

I own both a BAS and a 16.5 inch WWII with horn handle. The BAS even though lighter in weight than the WWII seems to have a bit more heft. I think that may be because it is a bit more blade heavy. My WWII is more neutral balanced. I've done some chopping with both. If I had to make a choice, I would take the BAS with me on camping, hiking trails etc while the WWII I would keep as a deterrent to those things that tend to make funny noises in the middle of the night

Both khukuris peform very well, for me it's a matter of preference and what I feel confortable with.
