I have no shortage of knives, and just today finally got my first commander. i have handeled and used them but finally have one to carry. i love it! The lock up is very solid, but the one thing i'm a bit concerned about it that when i open or close it with the thumb stud, having my thumb on the blade, no matter how lightly, seems to be enough pressure to make the side of the blade for about the last cm before the tip rub along the liner. opening, when i first put my thumb on the stud i can hear a slight click as the blade contacts the liner, then rubs as i open it, and basically the same thing when closing it. then when it's completely closed, the blade easily rocks between the liners without much pressure. Just curious if this is something i should be concerned about. thanks for any help..

Sorry to say, but typical quality for this knife. Look at the recent posts about this subject

IS THE BLADE CENTERED IN THE CLOSED POSITION?IF NOT TRY TIGHTENING OR LOOSENING THE PIVOT SCREW. I DID THIS AND FOUND THE BEST TENSION AND THEN LOCKTIGHTED THE PIVOT SCREW IN THAT POSITION. IT HAS NEVER CHANGED AT ALL AND THAT WAS LAST YEAR.

KEEP EM SHARP OR IT'S USELESS

Masse, STAYSHARP is absolutely right. Mine needed 1/4 turn to tighten the pivot screw in order to align the blade perfectly. 1 drop of Loctite has kept my blade flawlessly centered ever since.

thanks for the help everybody...i know see how much turning the pivot screw affects the blade position. it is pretty well centered, but the blade still easly moves back and forth between the liners if you push ever so slightly on the sides of the blade. what that means is that every time i open or close it, the blade rubs along the liner on the opposite side from my thumb, and eventually will wear the coating off of the blade. thanks again for any help...

The problem is the super small blade washers / spacers. Not enough surface area to hold the blade steady while closed, without the extra force of the "lockup".

thanks jackyl, thats pretty mush exactly what it feels like...so i guess there's no point in worrying or doing anything about it?

I just plan on lightly flipping it open, as I probably won't use the wave for fear of ruining my jeans, and the disk won't work unless you have a light touch, or don't care about the finish. Of course blade finishes don't matter on a knife that's only made for STABBING.

They leave the washers this small so the blade will "fly" out faster, and use blade coatings because it's easier than having them satin finished, and it hides a lot of cosmetic flaws in the blade. Oh well, I like the shape, so I'm gonna try to make the best, of a BAD situation.

My baby should be here next week sometime with a real "V" beveled edge.

Wow. Guess I'm a lucky guy. I got a "blind" 2000 Commander. Blade's centered, liner locks tight, no blade play, and I happen to like chisel grinds...

See2, in the closed position, can you gently use your fingers to push the blade back and forth between the liners? That is the one and only problem with mine, otherwise it seems perfect so far. i'm just curious how common that one problem is. thanks
