Wanted to ask the experts on Wilson Combat Eagle knife. Just got mine today. One of the best looking and feeling knives I ever held. Was going to be my EDC for a while. However after a few times opening and closing ,The frame lock got impossible to move with a thumb, and it takes a tool to pry the lock open to close the blade. Does anyone else have that problem , or do you know the remedy. I tried adjusting the screw and oiling, nothing helps. If not , unfortunately this baby is going back to Wilson Combat since I have no Idea if it's knife specific or just the way they are made. Closing a Starbenza seems effortless comparing to Eagle.

Felix1k,

Have you had a chance to try the Sharpie treatment yet?

If you take it apart, do the lockbar itself and the blade tang on the side it engages with the lockbar. Make sure you assemble it dry. You'll feel how slippery the Teflon washers are when you dry them off.

It is worth a try. You can always send it back to Wilson, but you might want to try that first.

Mine had the same issue, I've been able to overcome it enough to warrant keeping them.

I did talk to Les George about it, and he said he'd correct it no problem if I sent it to him.

I'd recommend sending it to him rather than Wilson. I think the blade lock area needs a slightly more angled face like my other liner locks is all it needs to be corrected. But the Sharpie treatment has worked well enough on both of mine I just use them.

Let me know how it works out...

Jmclfrsh thank you for advice. I have 16 sebenzas and not 1 issue. This seems like a very problematic model. Will send it back

Understand; you can call and ask for Brad in customer service, tell him your plight and have him go through some and pick you one that opens easily.

Or just get your money back, or a WC Umnumzaan for less, if you don't already have one of course.

It is a shame, I know. I like it, and the thinness, but there is still nothing overall like a CRK. I'm up to five.

Have my collection ready! By the way what ever I did with a pencil to get to work better, silver sharpie made it go back to original non closing state! Sharpie was a draw back !

Man, sorry to hear that! Graphite didn't help mine a bit, either in pencil form nor as a suspended in liquid state.

Either way, you going to replace it, or just get your $$ back. Decide yet?

Spoke to a rep today at Wilson Combat. Asked him to take 3 knife samples. Than asked him to see the one that has the most centered blade. Opens up well and closes easiest out of the 3. We narrowed down to one. Having it shipped tomorrow. Looks like big discrepancies between the quality of each model. I think quality control does not exist for that model LOL

Hate to say it but I agree. I had him look at 10 the second time around, and since I have one already, I'm going to call them tomorrow and I think I'm going to trade the newer one for a Star Tac.

I really don't need two, and one opens far easier than the other, even after time. So now the question is, right-handed or left-handed in the Startac?

I'm left-handed, but I already have a new pivot left-handed Zaan, and if I needed to sell or trade it later the right-handed version would appeal to more people. Decisions, decisions.

I DO really like the Eagle I have that opens very easily. I carry it pretty much every day, including IWB at work in dress pants. It's that thin.

I could not do that with the StarTac, but it's a CRK so I know quality issues will pretty much be nonexistent. And I'm picky.

True. Decided to go with a right-hand Startac. Now I have both a left and right hand new pivot, one a Zaan and one a Startac.

And a right hand old pivot. Think I'm good to go on the Zaans, until I can source an old pivot Startac....

Will the madness never end? :)

Is the lock face carbidized (however you spell that)?

It can't be otherwise we wouldn't have the sticky lock issue. Remember the Eagle also doesn't have a replaceable hardened stainless steel insert on the lock face as a different solution.

I agree with Ramzar. Carburizing is a process where the lock bar face is hardened and thereafter it does not stick to the harder blade surface. Problem solved.

ZT had the issue as well for a while on the 0560/0561 series but they've seemingly cured the issue.

CRK hardens their Ti with a torch and it works like a charm. I'm sending mine back to Les George to have him fix it.

Ok got my Replacement Eagle Wilson combat. This one is smooth , fast and awesome ! I think Wilson Needs to go trough their inventory and identify sticky off center blades and ship the back to Les.

Really? Has it gotten sticky since you've been playing with it for a few days?

My new WC Startac arrives tomorrow, and Tuesday I'm shipping my Eagle to Les George to get the lock addressed once and for all.

Bet the CRK Startac doesn't have any lock or centering issues... :)

Nope no problems with being as sticky as the first knife. Did you get star tac at new price?

Yes, I sent back an Eagle (had two) and they refunded me some money, but the cost of the StarTac was at the new price.

My other Eagle that I was going to send back? After you said the silver sharpie messed it up, I took a q-tip and some alcohol and cleaned it all off.

The result? No more sticking lock! Never did send it back, and carry it every day. Thanks for including that tidbit of information. :)

I had an incident last night where the Eagle possibly saved my life. Thank G-d nothing happened , but flicking it open on would be muggers drove them away.

Man, that's scary. Thank Goodness your new friend helped solve the situation. Glad you're ok Felix
