Just got my Street Surgeon from BladeArt today (thanks, Larry!). What a knife! I have only been able to admire Mr. Perrin's work in pictures and copies (Emerson laGriffe), so this is a real treat. I will do a bigtime eval of this knife later, but suffice to say this is one little, and cool knife! A great combo for me. Sheath is ingenious, and I'm already cooking up ideas for a synthetic version. In any case, awesome knife, and it has everything I love in a handmade knife: temper line, small in size, well-thought out design, and obvious signs of hand-madednes. I love it! Vive F. Perrin! :D

PS, anyone know what Street Surgeon would translate to in French? This knife needs a French name, in my opinion!

Steve, "Street Surgeon" in French translates precisely to "Rue Chirurgien" which doesn't sound too cool, but it could also easily translate to "Rue op'erator" OR "Rue Docteur". Take your pick.

Anyway, I'm glad that you like your Street Surgeon as much as I like mine. That's the beauty of these forums; to be able to turn good people on to cool blades. Enjoy! :)

BTW, please keep me posted as to your progress with the kydex/concealex sheath for this blade. I'm absolutely interested in acquiring one from you.

Here's a few pix to hold everyone until you do your review.

Here's four of my fave Perrins together:

Thanks for rubbing it in, Eric! ;) Nice Bali! Did it come out beofre or after the Laci Szabo Rad folder? I would be interested to know if the two bounced ideas off each other or if they both eveolved independently. Different knives, but the same concept. Cool stuff!

Steve, it's funny that you should mention Laci's RAD folder. These were formerly made for Laci by Farid, but now they're being made by Dale Reif. So far only two of them have been delivered; Laci has one, and the other is on it's way to ME since my friend Larry@bladeart is always looking out for my custom addiction. :D
My Szabo/Reif RAD Folder will be here Friday, so expect my review and pix of it Friday night. Man, this is one folder I'm REALLY looking forward to.
Anyway, Fred and Laci collaborate (conspire) constantly, and it's often difficult to determine whose ideas come from who. I bet Larry knows the answer though. Larry, this is your cue. Enlighten us about what came first; Fred's extended bali, or Laci's RAD design?

...or is it...From the minds of madmen come maniacal creations. :)

You're smooth, Larry. I just knew that you were going to manage to dodge the bullet on that question.

I received my Perrin Street Surgeon today :D (Thanks to Bladeart.com, and Eric Blair for posting the pics)!!!
It's my first Perrin knife (#37), but I plan on getting some more of his work, probably some balisongs. My brother wants a street surgeon too.
I'll try to get my next Perrin's in France, because Paris isn't that far away from where I live (Belgium)

Eric Blair, do you have a picture of the RAD folder? I would like to see it :)

Sure, BaliDude; here's Laci and his RAD

My RAD should be here tomorrow at this time. I'll take pix and post them in this forum as soon as I get my hands on it. :)

Yahoo- I received my surgeon today. The only problem I had was with the sheath. The sheath came with stitching that was becoming unraveled. The edge comes into contact with it when going in or out of the sheath and has cut it. I'll have the local shoe repair guy restitch when it gets real bad. The amount of force that you can cut with is tremendous. I cut some leather strapping and it just pushed right on through. This is nothing more than a chisel or a wood plane blade. Thanks Larry and Eric.

Eric, what thickness is the balisong blade? BTW I got #27

balut, the blade thickness of my bali is 1/8", the same as the Street Surgeon. This is the smoothest and most silent bali I've ever owned.

The sheath for my Street Surgeon had two loose/cut stitches when I received it, and I simply hit the severed threads with the flame from a butane lighter. Since then I've been carrying it everyday and I haven't experienced any further unraveling at all. Give it a try, balut! :)

Eric & Balut, mine has the same problem! It is a flaw in the design of the sheath, which is awesome otherwise. Sean Perkins uses 8-9oz. tool leather for his sheaths, and I think this would fix the problem with the Surgeon's sheath. It doesn't take much to dig the back of the sheath, and once it catches, it's all over! The stitching on mine is great, and I would really prefer the leather sheath over Kydex, but I think mine is close to being toast. The problem I forsee with using heavy tool leather like Sean is that the loop in front that goes around a belt loop would be cumbersome.

This knife is totally cool, got #41 (at least thats what it appears to be)...I showed someone at work and he was like "wow, that thing is evil" :D. Very satisfied.

Thanks Larry.
