When I was a kid, my dad gave my brothers and I each a Buck Squire for our hunting knives. Now that my dad has passed away I treasure that knife more than any other in my modest collection. I inherited his EDC buck knife but I can not see myself using and potentially loosing this knife. So I just traded a fellow forumite for a Buck 110. This will be my work knife once I get it touched up a bit. I have a newbie question for the Buck faithful. The blade is marked BUCK 110 V U.S.A. I'm looking for the following information if possible.

What does the V stand for?
When was this knife made?
What is the blade steel in this knife?
What kind of wood was commonly used on this model?
Any suggestions on caring for the wood scales?

Thanks again in advance for your assistance.

Cheers.

Hi, the V is the date code, that tells that the 110 was made in 1989, so the steel is 425M stainless. (current ones are 420HC), and prior to yours they were 440C.

The handle "should" be Macassar Ebony.

Hi to you. I have been working my 110 since the early 80 got it from Cost to Cost hardware (miss c to c, we have no place in town now to buy Buck’s) and am on the third blade from just honest wear. That one knife along with Bucks service more than anything has lead me down the Buck path to well over 50 and still going most of the others never get out but my 110, Odyssey, 119 and 118 get it done. So watch out they are very very addictive. Any way to your question on the wood only thing I ever do is oil knife with break free and the wipe down the wood. Still going!

Thank you TLC and SD. I appreciate your insight. I guess I will be finding out how the 425M stainless holds an edge later this week!!! :)

Cheers.
