I just revieved my first Busse knife. Its a NMSFNO‏, its actually a little heavier than I thought it would be, but I have to say this is the most awsome knife I have ever had. Its so cool looking I almost feel bad about getting marks and blemishes on it. Oh well I can't resist I'm going to go chop some things up.

welcome to the most wonderful knife collecting/use in the world. you have just joined a family of addicts that are simply helpless to the addiction of a steel that is the best, barnone.

enjoy you will buy more, don't question yourself, just do it, and remember, "no regrets"

welcome to the Busse club, just be careful, it can become an addicting habit:)

Congrats on your first Busse! NMSFNO is one of my favorites! Don't forget to post some pics one you beat on it!

It'll look even better once it's taken a good beating...

Congrats on the Busse man - use her in good health!

I know what you mean too - when I got my first big Busse a few weeks ago I just stared at the thing for a few days. Then promptly found the biggest log I could and laid into it - I like it even better now :D

@ Mustard Man - God that bama clay is gorgeous  nice taste! If you ever want to get rid of it... I'd be more than happy to help you out ;)

It would take some serious second-hand markup to make me willing to give up the NMSFNO. I wasn't completely sold on it when I got it, but now that it's got that hair-shaving convex edge on it, I'm clinging onto that sucker for dear life.

I don't really care one way or the other about the color, but NMSFNOs on the exchange are selling for so close to original retail right now that there's no way I would let it go. Combine the bama clay with the hand-shaped linen micarta handles and this beast is worth hanging onto unless I get offered SERIOUS cash :p

I dont blame you man - its sweeeeeeeet.

Was going to ask if the handles were hand shaped - they look great. Did you put that edge on yourself with sandpaper? The coating looks really well preserved right above the edge... I'm debating if I should try to convex my muddy ASH myself or send it out...

Sorry for the hijack... :thumbdn:

I did the edge on a belt sander. I've done them by hand before, but doing a blade the size of the NMSFNO by hand takes a whole lot of time. It was about 5 minutes on the sander.

Woof, 5 minutes - nice work!

I should probably cut my losses and send mine out - save myself the time and the muddy finish... :D

All of that mess wiped clean with some warm water, hand soap, and a green scrub pad. All that was left is the minor smoothing you can see in the third pic.
Love this knife!!

Told you so! With a good edge, the NMSFNO is a chopping machine! It would be a most impressive first Busse to get.

Congrats, verbel!

verbel,

Welcome aboard and congrats on the awesome blade score. Just remember, INFI is a funny thing. If you don't beat on the knife it may leave to find a more abusive home.

Again, welcome and if you ever have any questions you can always give us a call at the shop 419-923-6471 or you can email me anytime garth@bussecombat.com.

How does your M9 compare in performance to the NMSFNO?

I haven't done any real side-by-side comparisons since I reprofiled the edge on the NMSFNO. With the factory edges, in my testing, the M9LE actually outchopped the NMSFNO. However, in Horn Dog's tests, the NMSFNO, with an awesome HD convex edge, seriously outchopped the M9LE. Just more proof that edge geometry matters a lot.

The M9LE has a more neutral balance to it, while the NMSFNO is more blade heavy. That should mean, with similar edges, the NMSFNO would be the better chopper of the two. That has certainly been true in others' testing. On the other hand, the M9LE is less fatiguing to swing, and it's an awesome brush clearer. It's also a heck of a batoning knife, but the thinner tip does tend to chew up a baton somewhat. It's also a little easier to use for detail work, again because it's not as blade heavy.

For a pure chopper, I would say the NMSFNO is the easy choice. For an all-around camp knife, it's a tougher decision. The M9LE is definitely one of my favorite blades - the very nimble feel in the hand is just plain sweet.

Pick up the NMSFNO, and the first word to pop into your mind is "power". Pick up the M9LE, and that word is "finesse". Both are awesome big blades
