Based on suggestions from the forum members, I finally got my first EDC folder. Very impressed with this model. The only other folder I have is an Emerson Karambit but it's not for daily use. When I got the Emerson, people recommended that I immediately take it apart, clean it, lubricate, etc. Disassembling was quite simple and cleaning it made the wave function silky smooth. I am curious if the same is recommended with Spyderco products. This model seems a bit more complex and I want to make sure that I don't do it needlessly. So here are my questions:
1. Do you recommend disassembling, cleaning, lubricating initially
2. Do you recommend doing it at all, ever
3. Starting a couple month from now, my maintenance regiment will include cleaning out the pocket lint, etc with soap, water, and toothbrush every couple months, drying with the hair dryer on low, putting a small drop of Remington oil in the pivot area only. How does that sound?

Thanks

1. For Spyderco lockbacks, I do cleaning and lubricating routinely, but I never take it apart (because I cannot / don't want to mess with assembling it back.) I have a Native on the way and based by my exp with 2 enduras, 3 delicas, 2 dragonflies... no you don't need to do the initial disassembling/cleaning. lubricating, yes, i put a drop of mineral oil on the pivot to smoothe the flicking.

2. For FRN lockbacks... i don't recommend you to disassembly it except you know how to do it... i simply make this reccomendation because I myself cant dissassembly my own FRN lockbacks).

3. sounds you'll be fine :)

Spyderco warranty is void if the knife is disassembled.

For the Native because of the backlock it's a little more difficult to keep clean but I use an air duster can to clean out my knives and put a drop of Tuf-Glide on the pivot.
If it gets really gunked up a soap and water wash first will do the trick then blow it out and oil.

1. Do you recommend disassembling, cleaning, lubricating initially-No
2. Do you recommend doing it at all, ever-No
3. How does that sound?-Just keep it oiled, it will be fine

Great blade, enjoy and use in good health

Great. Thanks. I am glad I don't have to mess with the internals. Sounds pretty low maintenance

Extra note: too much oil will attract unwanted dirt and dust. Just a little goes a long way, don't drown it.

Congrats, Native5 is a great edc knife.
1- No.
2- I would do that after one-one and half year.
3- Keep doin it, but listen what "Yo Mama" said :)
