Since the wife and I both have parents and they live in different states, we have to do two Xmases a year. This year we are having "real" Xmas with her family in Ohio. So, this past weekend, we went to Memphis to have Xmas with my parents. My mother is the sweetest ladie in the world and knows what her baby boy likes. She got me a brand spankin new RAT-7 in D2. I was going to wait for the RC line to come out, but she went ahead and got me what was available now. It's not a true RC knife, being from Ontario, but it is still very impressive and the design is awesome. I am very happy with this knife. I can't wait to beat the crap out of it, as I do with all my knives. I'm really looking forward though to the full RC line. I'll be needing an RC-4, RC-6, Neck Knife, and maybe an extra RC-4 for the wife.

It might be on the website, but what are the sheath options we're going to be looking at on the RC knives? The RAT-7 is nice, but the sheath is junk. Obviously Ontario had the same sheath company produce their sheaths as Ranger did. Both of them come with a sheath that is nowhere near the quality of the knife. I might keep them around as a backup just in case, but I think those knives need some kydex pants. I've been talking with Normark about getting sheaths for both the Ranger and my new RAT.

Excellent pick, I have the RAT7 in 1095 and it is a workhorse....I really like the spec-ops sheath(Survival & Combat version) over kydex but to each his/her own...I just like having the pocket to stash extra gear...Great Blade...like you I can not wait until the RC line hits the shelves...

You'll love using the RAT-7, it's a great knife.

TTD: Is the Spec Ops sheath better than the one that comes with the RAT-7? I also prefer to have a pouch if I don't have a smaller, piggyback, knife (hint, hint, poke, poke, prod, prod). The sheath that comes with the RAT-7 is good enough, but the insert is a really weak, crappy piece of junk plastic.
Is the Spec Ops one stiff enough to unsheath and resheath one handed?

Spec-ops sheath are money well spent $35-50,the survival model has been discontinued...and IMO it was the best...now there is a combat model that is excellent but the pouch on the front is not as large as the survival, tight fit no rattles.and you get your choice of flavor, tan/black/green and there is another color can't remember and there is a short version blades up to 6" and large version blades up to 8" .but both models have holes along both sides to lash a smaller sheath to but it will cover over the pouch...they are awesome.I am waiting to buy a RC4 or RC6 to give the new sheaths a whirl...they look great.

both of my sheaths are spec-ops survival models tan is the older style and the green is the newer model with an expandable pocket.both models hold alot of gear...green is the short version and the tan is the larger version....TTD

I have two Spec-Ops Survival sheaths, one tan and one black. I do like the sheaths, but I just love the kydex.
