So after shows like Vikings and Last Kingdom I have had a big hankering for a seax. I've never handled one but they look scary and pretty useful too. I found one I liked that Jarod Todd had made and when I contacted him he worked a good deal for me. Well I received it yesterday and I can't remember ever being happier with a knife!
It's really beautiful to start with, the damascus is great, the way it is etched you can feel the alterations in the steel, (my daughters really dug that, along with the runes on the blade. I don't know what they really mean but I told them that was "todd" in viking). The handle is shinier and has prettier grain than the pictures show. but the best part is the knife is so fast and alive in my hand. I don't know if this is common for a seax or becuase of the way he built it, its such a pleasure to hold and use. The handle is long enough that I can get a comfortable grip on it, and shaped right so that it doesn't want to roll. the finish and fitting are excellent and I sat on the porch checking it out for about an hour.
So far I shaved the back of one hand, have used it to cut three cigars, and in an effort to convince my wife it was a kitchen knife I sliced a tomato for our hamburgers. (it's wicked sharp). incidentally she didn't believe me even though I couldn't have done a better job with any of my regular kitchen blades.
I also wanted a non-traditional sheath, he did me up a real nice one in kydex with a techlock.

JT was great to deal with, great about communication and sending me pics along the way (I had found pics of him originally doing the damascus for it so I have a nice little gallery of the whole start to finish).
My wife is gonna be real happy as I'm volunteering for prep duty just to have more things to cut. My uncle dared me to shave my beard off with it but I don't have enough in the sack to try that.
Thanks Jarod!!
