I just got it last night. now I understand all the talk, this will be my EDC for a long time.

Same here! I got mine yesterdy for my birthday. I actually wanted to make a new thread about it, but I see you made pretty much the same one already. Congratulations to you(and to me!).
It really is fantastic, however VERY dull, mine really came with a terrible factory edge. Wouldn' t even cut paper.

Whaaaaaat? I don't believe it! Is yours actually factory new or second hand? I mean, Sebs don't usually come "Spyderco" sharp from the factory, but not dull, and it's really easy to get 'em sharp. I got my large regular Seb and Umnumzaan sharper than I've been able to get any CRK folder in the past, just takes a little water stone or Sharpmaker time.

my standards have changed, anything less then spyderco sharp is dull, IMO.

I just got the small plain one. Its perfect for my needs. For years Ive been saying I would never pay that much, but I broke down. Im glad I did.

Oh great you can help me! Is it that small, or what? I am having such a hard time deciding which to get.

No its not that small. I have mediom size hands, and it fits me perfect. Its an ideal EDC size.

If it really was NiB and dull, you could probably send it back to CRK and get a resharpen for free.
If you're just being an elitist and use reams of paper for cut tests or something, well then you're just going to have to deal with it.
I was able to push cut paper and cardboard with ease right out of the box.

First off, yes the knife was NIB. It' s a Lg Sebenza 21 and it was totally dull, and I mean totally, wouldn' t even cut paper without tearing it, and I' m really not too snobby about that. I wdefinitely won' t send it back, because I live in Germany which means that shipping would be very expensive, it would take months for me to get it back, I' d have to pay customs fees and i really don' t want to do all that just to save me the effort of sharpening it, which i have already done. It did take a while to get a nice 40° edge on it with the Sharpmaker, but it is sharp now.

That is really odd that it would come that dull. I'd expect any knife NiB to be at least sharp enough for a paper cut.

not a big deal if its dull, just sharpen it. If you cant sharpen it I dont think your ready for such a fine knife=P

Yes, especially at the price point...but as I said, it' s all taken care of now. Great knife, still very well worth the price:)

i couldn't agree more, sir. all of the threads about sharpest out of the box in my opinion is nonsence. a prerequisite to using a knife should be how to sharpen it. sharpest out of box is ONLY good for the 1st use, after that it needs to be sharpened:D

My large 21 also came dull. It would tear paper and did not even come near my Spyderco Military in sharpness. 10 minutes on the Sharpmaker fixed it, though.

I know what y'all are saying about CRK's notoriously dull factory edges. Totally true, won't argue a bit. But whomever they've hired to sharpen their kitchen knives must have worked for Sal at some point in his career. I'm telling you, that Sikayo is SOME KIND OF FREAKY SHARP. I'm just now healing up from the first use. This thing is borderline dangerous. It could easily pass a Spyderco QC exam and maybe even blow the Spyderco QC guy out of his chair. I'm serious. Get a hold of a Sikayo. They're something totally out of this world. The pricepoint sucks but if you can land one, do it. Do it. :)

My small classic was ho-hum out of the box, OK but not but I expected. My fixed blades were better, but my large Trapeze regular was on a par with anything else except the sharpest Spyders.

Most knives don't last long before I have to fiddle with edge.
