Actually, I just registered here so I could post this. First BF post, first Spydies. It's a good day.

I got a Toad, a G-10 Harpy, and a Sharpmaker, all in the same day. I'm thrilled with all three, although I'm having a little trouble with the Sharpmaker; I think I just need some practice. The video was absolutely terrific, though.

Interestingly enough -- Sal, if you're reading this, I remember that you talked heatedly about knockoffs a while back. I actually bought the Harpy and the Toad because I was using knockoffs of the Harpy and the Ladybug -- I know you probably lose more customers than you get, but you at least got one that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

I was sure that these were the only three Spyderco products I was going to buy, but you know, that Cricket's starting to look pretty good. And the ladybug -- at least one. And there's always the dragonfly...

Welcome, JamesA! A very good first post -- well maybe except the part about the knockoffs. Am glad they made you want a good knife in the same configuration tho.

Well, the Harpy isn't little, but all the hawkbills are a tad strange, IMO. And, the move up from Ladybug knockoff to Toad is a large one. But, point is, there is a very wide variety of medium and large knives that you should really think of.

I just got a Native (used) and a Calypso Jr. Ltwt.(new) and a Wegner. In last 2 days. Native went into my pocket today. That is very fast for me. Last knife I put into my pocket to carry had been around for weeks. Well, the Goddard went into pocket the day it got here, because needed left-handed knife. Both the medium size knives will be left-handed for me. Am thinking the Wegner will get tryout very soon, too. There is no doubt all are fine knives.

Just keep thinking in terms of all the good ones you need -- and you'll do okay. Enjoy the forums. (SOrry to ramble so, brain not functioning)

Actually, the school I'm attending in the fall has a "has to be below a three inch blade" rule, and that's one of those zero tolerance you'll-get-kicked-out-and-thrown-in-jail-if-you-break-this-rule rules. So my options are rather limited -- I think even a Delica is too big.

No! Don't say that James. I'm buying me a sharpmaker after much encouragement and convincing from these fine people.

Oh, trust me; it's very, very worth it. It just took me three or four knives to get the hang of keeping the knife vertical, just like Sal said it would.

Now that I rote-learned the motion, the hair on my left arm is looking kind of ragged. The little of it that's left, anyway...

You'll love it. I'm sure.

Hi James. Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the kind words.

Glad the "Knock offs" worked for you (& us). I do believe that "intellectual property" is and will be a problem worldwide in most industries for some time. I don't know a solution.
