Never thought I'd pay into the triple digits for a knife but I'm glad I did. I love the Manix, it's such a beast. What was your first high end production knife?

BM 909. I hated it more the longer I had it. I eventualy changed the ultra thin coated tanto blade for a satin drop point, and now its my go to beater. I love it. I've always liked the looks of the manix 2, but something about the shape handles have always turned me off.

I wouldn't call a Manix 2 XL a "high end production knife," it's more mid-priced, and on the cheap end of the mid-priced spectrum (IMO). My first mid priced knife (over $100) was a PM2. I loved it, but it definitely didn't satisfy the urge for better knives. My first true high end production knife was a small Sebenza 21 plain Jane, and it's still one of my favorite knives.

the manix xl feels amazing in the hand doesnt it? i just wish had bought the black blade version instead of satin, the black version looks awesome.

My first ones were the M390 Paramilitary 2 and the ZT 0561. I don't have all that much interest in high end knives as other people define them, these are high end enough for my price range. I also now have the Manix 2 XL S90V, the most I've paid for a folding knife.

My first $100+ Knife was the Benchmade 940. A blade every knife knut should experience in my opinion. My first true high-end production was the Brous Blades Reloader. I don't like recurves and I'm not a big fan of tantos, but man! I love my Reloader.

High end? I got a CR Umnumzaan earlier in the year. Pretty defining moment in the years I've been accumulating folders. It's such a great knife.

I understand what people are saying about $100 not being "high end" but it is a point where you're getting a really good knife, certainly not a throw-away utilitarian object.

My first brand name knife was a SOG Trident, which at the time was around $100 here in Canada (yes, I know you can get them for 50 bucks at Walmart in the US now) but it was bought to be a working knife and is still used that way 5-6 days a week. The purchase that really cemented me as a knut was ordering a ZT 0350 and 0770CF together.

I haven't tried the Manix XL, but I do have 2 regular sized Manix2s, a lightweight and a normal one. They're great knives.

Kind of funny but I remember thinking $50 was crazy to spend on a knife. Then I slowly went up an past that. Then I can remember wanting to get ONE knife in the $100+ range and I would be happy. That ended up being a ZT0566. I loved it but always lusted after a 0550. A gen 2 blem popped up on the exchange at a price I couldn't refuse so I bought it. A few months later I just had to have a ZT0770CF. I sold five of my cheaper knives to fund that one. I also bought an Elmax Blur at $98 that I keep forgetting I own.

I personally don't think I'll ever spend much more than I currently have. When tax season rolls around I may add a ZT0562cf but might sell off something at that point. I actually think I've hit a point where I don't feel like I need to buy any more.
