OMG, it's AWESOME!!! That was the first thought as I looked down at my new Chiruwa Ang Khola (16.5")... My next thought was, "It's too light! It must be somebody else's blade!"

Nope, it was mine... And beautiful it is, too... Extremely well made, fabulous finish, and no blems... In other words- PERFECT!

I've talked to folks here about sharpening, and am now shopping for the "proper belt sander." I've been educated about the Convex edge, and that's what I'm going to shoot for...

Perhaps it's not "traditional," but I've used either Prestone Silicon Spray on my large/long blades, or now on smaller blades, Mother's Carnuba Wax... Both do extremely well near the ocean, and on a river next to my house... I haven't decided which to use on this one... (My other Khukuri, a Khukuri House OIFK, has been protected with Mother's Carnuba Wax...)

I've not decided whether to put this beauty in one of my BOB's, or to keep it near me at all times... Tough question...

Well, I wanted to share my joy with my newest Khukuri... It's just the beginning of my doing business with H.I.

Thanks are due to a wonderful lady, Mrs. Bill Martino. I talked with her this afternoon, and she's a joy...

Namaste, Mrs. Martino, and I wish you all the best that life has to offer...

Sincerely Yours,

Carter Leffen

P.S. Folks talking about the quality of product and service at HI were not kidding... cfl

Wait till it strikes a Pine branch.

I'm happy for you- thanks for sharing it.

Soon you'll have one in that bug out bag, one in the trunk of your car, one on your TV, one under your bed, and a JKM in the bathroom holding a roll of toilet paper.

Soon.

Glad you like it. Congrats.

Ad Astra :foot: :p

Good stuff, Carter. I felt much the same way when I got my first. (Also a 16.5" AK.)

Wherever you keep it, use it and use it hard. Nothing keeps an edge shiny like plenty of wood.

Any wax with a bunch of carnuba is going to work well on carbon steel. I use it on my khuks, as well as the cast iron table saw bed and garden tools. Works like a champ. Of course, I don't have the sea proximity to complicate matters.

BTW, welcome to the most non-exclusive club in the world. Just need a penchant for pieces of steel that taper down a bit on the edge, and the occasional cry ouf 'Ayo Ghurkali!', if you'll pardon the original German.

I just recieved my new 20.25" "Movie model" yesterday, I know how you feel. I am itching to chop something with it.

Congrats, Carter:)
Be warned!! You are treading upon a slipperly slope that is worse than crack. HIKV (Himalayan Imports Khukuri Virus) is a rough bug to catch. Usually not fatal, but sufferes of the disease usually first spot the infection upon noticing the wasting of their wallet. Next boxes will begin to appear on your doorstep that you can't remember ordering. Soon you will need to feed the urge to have one of every model, by every Kami, in every handle material. You will begin to make up uses and excuses to buy more and more and more! Bears, Pirates, Ninjas, and Zombies will be the topic of the day as you select one of your mighty blades miming the death blow with a swish through the air. Excuses like "collector's item", "heirloom", and "one-of-a-kind" will spew from your lips to your wife or S.O. Finally, the fever hits in the middle of the night. You toss and turn, sweating, dreaming of what Yangdu MIGHT have posted while you were at work, going to the bathroom, or talking to your family about their obviously khukuri-less day. You awaken with the sweat pouring down your face "..huh, <snort>..<grunt>....baby GRS!..usual Sher features". You fly to the computer and order another one, credit card shaking in hand. The mouse is your needle, and the HI website is that sweet sweet poison that your vein cries out for.
Welcome, friend. Abandon all hope:D

Uh Jake, get some help buddy. By the way, wonder what amazing blades Yangdu is going to torture us with today. ;)

Sarge, they keep pushing these pills on me, but I sat down and had a good long talk with myself and we both decided it would be in our best interests not to trust the docors. Pffft, Doctors. What do they know? They can't even fly.

Man o' man am I glad I found this place! I thought I was A-L-O-N-E! I thought I was the O-N-L-Y one that was crazy for Khukuris!!! Finally, a real "Support Group!" Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

So many sane people, in such a big place! However, muwahaha, the WORLD is not enough... We must explore the heavens, go to the stars, carrying the wisdom of Khukuridom...

Whaaaaa? Oh, time for my meds again... Thought I was in SFI's The Nelson Arms Family Pub! Same kinda folks though! Sharp, shiny, pointed, edged weapons are our friends... We ALL love steel... Steel IS our friend...

I'll have a Jamison's and water! Drinks in the Cantina are on me!

Now, when are we going to petition NASA to have the Khukuri as the only space based knife?

All kidding aside, Gentlemen, it's truly an honor to be here... As a former Ontario Bagwell Bowie fanatic, I'm glad to be deprogrammed, and shown the light of truth, that is the Khukuri... I've learned more about knives reading here, and on the HI website, than all I knew before. It's great to learn facts, not urban legends...

I must, in all honesty and fairness, warn you. I will ask lots of questions, for I've much time and territory to cover... One of the gents at SFI, Jerry Spencer Mings, pointed out to me that the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukuri was NOT a Khukuri, because it had no cho. He, of course is right. Although the CS blade isn't a true Khukuri, it is a very good knife. However, it is NOT an HI or Khurkuri House Khukuri... Both stand above CS, head and shoulders...

It's the "feel" of these wonderful blades, and like the Frogs would say, "a certain, how shall we say, je ne sais quoi, that this blade is?" However you say or describe the HI or KH Khukuri, words may fail... No Bowie, and I've had more than a dozen in the last thirty years, can match the Khukuri...

Gentlemen, I'm hooked, and I'm honored to be in such exalted company...

Take care, stay safe, and have fun...

Carter
