Been wanting this knife for a while, and finally it's here. Sharp as hell from the box. I love the blade shape, like more of an abbreviated Esee 6 shape. Got the Choil like I like. The blade finish is sort of a hybrid between the Esee Rowan finish and the Ontario RD series. Fit and finish is definitely a step up from other Ontarios that I own. I love the RAT/Esee handle, and this micarta does not dissapoint. The only thing Im going to do is round out the pointy pommel-its just too triangular.
After getting the Esee 5 a while ago, I found out that the RAT 5 is 3/16th inch, which interested me in the knife, and I got the D2 version because I have a lot of 1095 stuff and wanted to try a different flavor.
Gonna use it for general hiking camping woods 4-wheeler stuff, and not really to wait til 30 below zero and try to baton a 12 in. diameter log with it- dont need to, coz of all the other youtube retards that apparently like to break knives their daddies buy for them.
Thanks for listening to the ramble..........

Gary, If you do I hope you wont be dissapointed. Thanks for your reply. I got the D2 from Chestnut Ridge Knife shop.

nice choice! I bought my rat 5 in D2 4 years ago as my first real bush knife, since then i've expanded my collection to the entire esee line (excluding the 5, which im sure will be one drunken ordering night away!) but i still find myself taking out my ontario rat quite a bit. I live in ontario and me and my son camp out during the winter and i've processed quite a bit of wood in -40 celsius with no brittle issues thus far! Enjoy!

Thanks, Hep! I just carved a spoon with it yesterday out of cherry wood ( tree died in our yard 18 months ago ). Cherry is pretty hard, not like mahogany, but hard. Carved about 2 hours and I was quite pleasantly surprised to see how it sliced up paper pieces afterward. Just sliced it effortlessly. Another thing is that I noticed the blade is thicker than 3/16ths, looks more like .20 or so. Do you know anything about that?

Nice pic Shunsui, now I need to get mine a "brother" like yours. I certainly will be getting another knife in D2, because of what ive seen in the one I have. Hard as hell steel, thats for sure
