Wow, this is a lot bigger than I thought.

I got an RC-4 thinking it would be a big step up from my RC-3, to use for hiking and camp chores. I was disappointed, not in the quality of the knife (it was as nice as any other RAT/ESEE) but the balance was off. The blade was too thick for its size I think. Whatever it was, it just wasn't right for me. A friend of mine will be purchasing it as his first RAT. He works outside all day and the Spyderco that I got him for his wedding isn't robust enough to beat on all day. I'm sure the RC-4 will suit him well.

So the RC-6 first impression is....It feels perfect! The blade is longer, wider, and thicker, and the handle is longer as well, the balance is perfect! I just can't believe how nice this feels in the hand.

I'm taking a winter hike next week Wednesday, if the weather allows. I will post a full review with pictures of me actually using the knife.

I got my RC 4 in the mail last weekend and took it into the woods for some batoning and messing around. ( I'll post pics later ).

For some reason, I thought the knife would be beefier, especially in the handle. My edc woods knife is a mid 1980's Rigid Skinner with a 4" blade and 3.5 cutting area. It's thick 440 steel and outweighs the RC 4 ... so the lightness suprised me somewhat.

I got mine with the orange g-10 handles which do feel slick in hand and a bit on the small side. I think they'd be different if they were more ergo designed. I am temped to make some wood scales or put spacers in for a palm swell.

Im not unhappy with it... and think it'll make a great utility / camping knife.

I did just order the RC 6 for a beefier survival tool.

What made you decide on the RC-6 over the RC-5? I want to purchase a larger Rat Knife. I have a RC-3, super blade. The RC-5 weighs 16oz. The
RC-6 is 4oz lighter and a longer blade. I'm a backpacker. Can you help me out?

The quarter pound of weight in a shorter knife. I dont use my knives as pry bars, so the extra beef wasn't needed. I also got my knife for hiking and camping, and extra weight is a concern.

I'm glad I went the way that I did, for its size the RC-6 feels lighter than it "should be".
