So I just got my stainless steel handled endura 4, my frist non-balisong spyderco, and there is this number right next to the spyderco symbol that says "090V" on it.....what is that exactly?

It's a collectors #. They have a spyderco collectors club and the members receive every model that leaves the factory.
IIRC your collectors number indicates that it's origin is "the pharmacy".
There is some debate if a collectors # raises the value of your knife.
I personnaly like the collectors #

greetz

So how did I get a collector's # if I'm not in the club? I bought it from NGK this week because I needed a new EDC (my old EDC, a CRKT m16-14, wore holes in my pants due to the very rough thumb studs and joints), but if it's a collectors I may just have to find myself a new EDC!

There is no such thing as a Spyderco that is too much of a "collector's item" to not be used.

Use it. That is why Spyderco is good- great users they are. If it just sits there trying to look pretty and trying to become more valuable... well, Spyderco sort of sucks at that.

Certain Spyderco collector's numbers are assigned to knife distributors. This way they are assured to get some of the smaller sprint runs. Also if a individual Spyderco Collector passes on a model it goes into normal circulation. At least this is how I understand it.

Being that you got yours from NGK I am betting that the number is theirs.

Edit: In fact I can confirm that it is NGK's number. My Spyderco Kris that I got from NGK has the same number.

If the collector who has that number doesn't want the knife, the knife dealer sells it to the general public. Some crazy Spyderco collectors actually collect all the Spydercos produced. Others only obtain their favorites. A knife with a collector's club number is no different than the same model without the collector's club number...the only difference being one has a tiny number etched onto the blade. The vast majority of users report no difference in performance (the vast majority in this case meaning all). Enjoy your knife!
