I made an executive decision a few weeks ago and decided that I only used one function (typically) on my old (2-3 years) Wenger Mountaineer knife - the blade. And more increasingly, I've had to do tough jobs that the Wenger had trouble with, evident by the wavy tip of the blade from bending it a few times.

I went out in search of an uber knife, one that would be ultra tough, stylish, sexy and be NEVER break or bend. I could have gotten a regular old Buck folder @ wal-mart but that would have left out "stylish" and "sexy"....I am no average joe. *snickers*

Finally, I settled on the SOG Tomcat II with cocobolo handle for $120 shipped. Just got it today...

This knife screams: "I'm a sexy beast!" (Faht Bahstahd)

When it locks in place with a loud SNAP you KNOW it's not going to move:D

Hey Warthog,

I've always admired the Tomcat for having the "like a tank" lock-up when opened. It just commands respect!

Glad you like the knife! Please let us know your impressions after you've "test driven" it a bit.

Take care.

haha yes it's brute-force presence of this knife amazes me

Will keep you informed, Ron...you were quite helpful in the aquisition of this knife.:)

I'll talk to SOG HQ about giving you a raise:p:p:D

I am SOG HQ ... Crap, I can't give myself a raise. You must be talking about the "White House." I answer directly to the "Oval Office." That's where you need to forward that important communiqué! ;) :D

Both the Kraton handled and Cocobolo handled Tomcat from SOG are great knives. I have the old Kraton version. I put a one-arm bandit on mine.

Only thing I need is a better sheath for mine. The original one is way too snug when carried horizontally.

When did they start putting red shields with white crosses on Tomcats?

haha yeah and when did they start making cheap (in comparison) locking mechanisms and skinny blade?:p  :)

question, the blade shape on the tomcat and tomcat 2 are slightly different right? the tomcat 2 has a slightly bigger blade?

Hi Manji,

I think you can see the proportions best in this attached image by Rival (see this thread). Blade length is the same. Shape is a bit different.

Ron,

I take it that the knife on top in the photo is the new one? I REALLY like it (with the steel butt-cap), 'cept that I like the blade-style of the older version the best.

Ron,
I have to side with Dann, the older Tomcat blade has sleek curves, and balance. It is nice to look at, as well as functional, the new one is a built like a tank, and about as pretty...
Great knife though...

lol, I like the tank look:D

Maybe SOG should have a poll on their website.

I wouldn't mind the old look blade either actually, but I doubt SOG would change back....maybe a compromise.

I have the older Tomcat, now part serrated and BC coated:D
Pics were posted, now not showing, but maybe will again...  :grumpy:
