Just got my ZT 550 yesterday ser # 555 everything was great but the detent, I've watched some videos and the ones I've seen open no prob it seems like everyone was using there thumb like it was no big deal. I'm not a knife noob either and have never had a problem with any other knife, and my thumbs don't need to be stronger either. Does anyone else notice this or should I send it in, I'm kinda in a dilemma between send it out or don't. A non knife person would never be able to flick it open with one thumb, I can But it is a pain in the you know what not to mention uncomfortable. And this is my first ZT, any help would be much appreciated thanks Justin:( Just found that the thumb stud is not centerd so that must be the problem it sticks out a noticable diff on the locking side so I guess shes going back after all

Mine is #401 and it had been buttery smooth from day one out of the box. Does it feel grainy or dry when you open it?

no just like butter opening its just got a tough detent to initially start the blade moving, maybe it needs to be broken in a little considiring I got it last nite? I thought maybe I was putting to much pressure on the lock bar but after closer inspection I don't think so

Just give it a little more time for the detent ball to dig a groove in the blade. Also remember to push up towards the pivot when deploying. A little lube and patience and you should be fine.

I just found a problem:eek: and thinbk this is the problem the thumbstud is not centered It sticks ot more on the lock side, its a noticaable difference, enough to not be able to get enough grip on the side where I need to. I guess she will have to go back after all :( I know thats the problem and not the detent b/c I can open it left handed no problem oh well

My phone am is broke and i'm not at home so sorry I can't but I will hopefully before I send it in< do I ahve to have that warranty sheet in the package does anyone know b/c it seems like knda a pain in the ass to download some stuff to send in my knife when i'm not near a printer

I would call them first before you do anything. Good luck and keep us informed.

Yep i'll call the first thing Monday and let yall know whats up, I'm sure they will take care of it no problem as I've heard there customer service dept. is awesome.. You don't think they would sharpen unless I asked b/c the edge is great and has never even been used, I don't want to find some of my blade gone when I get it back:eek: that wouldn't be cool

If you send it in, send a piece of paper explaining the exact problem and what you would like them to do. That will ensure that they do what you want and hopefully don't sharpen any life out of your blade.

It needs to be broken in, my cannot open with my thumb at all, I have to use my thumb and flick my wrist at the same time, about ten time it smooth out, now thumb only.

Yes it needs to be broken in.
Another thing, as you know it's a framelock, you may be squeezing the locklug tightly aganist the blade while opening. This will add, to a degree, the amount of difficultiy. Be conscious of this and that may help.

+1 to gull wing's explanation. That was the problem with mine. It needed to be broken in and I needed to make sure I wasn't putting any pressure on the lockbar.
