I just got a call from a well known sheath maker about my cgfbm mud snake. I was all excited about sending him my blade this week and got it shipped to him and delivered Saturday. He was working on the liner and had the blade wrapped in tape to form the kydex.
HERE COMES THE BAD NEWS.
When he removed the tape the brown crinkle coat came off and exposed some real bad rust. Must off had an issue with prep at time of coating application sometimes this happens.
He told me this has happened before to him and a few other sheath makers. I have never had a problem with any of there knives but the sheath maker said this has happened before. I'm not saying anything bad because I love there stuff. The sheath maker told me to contact busse and get them to send him a label so he could ship it to them.
Well I will contact busse Monday and give them my bad news and hope they will help me out.

Real bad rust on an INFI cgfbm? I find that very odd. Do you have pics? I'm sure Busse will make it right.

I'm sure the boss will handle it. They should be able to blast it and recoat it I would imagine.

Yea I'm not worried about them fixing it I'm just bummed about the set back but better to find it now than later.
If you can see the attached pic it's pretty bad.

Well I'm not a computer WIZ by any stretch.
It was sent to me is text so not sure what to do and I don't have a photobucket account set up yet used to but not anymore.

The rust is going to be due to the de-carb layer that is/was not removed for the Combat Grade blades before they were/are coated. Tough to remove that de-carb and the big reason that Combat Grade is less expensive than Satin finish. Less time spent on finish. The de-carb rusts quickly but is a shallow layer and will not lead to pitting or significant damage to blade or edge. Its just effing ugly.

Hi Gunfreaker101. I've had some early CGFBM's that have done that. It's not uncommon. The Shop will be well aware of it and they will make it right. At least that has been my experience. They have always gone above and beyond.

Chris.

Very rare that this happens. We blast the heavy decarb off prior to coating.

Kydex benders can easily overheat the coating and cause delamination if they are not overly cautious.

Have the sheath maker contact me tomorrow and please email the pic to me at: jerry@bussecombat.com

Sorry for the trouble my friend.

We will know what happened to it once we examine it.

Either way, we will make it right for you.

Thanks man!

Jerry
