First let me say that I don't sell this stuff, nor do I get any kind of kickback.

So I just got some NanoLube after seeing it on another forum. The first thing I decided to try it on is a Victornox Hiker. I have 5 or 6 Hikers that I've carried over the years. I switch around depending on mood and clothes between a BM Ritter, Spyderco Endura, and a couple of others with clips. The one thing I ALWAYS have in a pocket is the Vic Hiker. After a couple of years the Vics always seem to tighten up, almost like the pins have been peened too much. I'm sure it's just the accumulation of fine grit and other stuff from the pocket. I do occasionally clean them out good and re oil them using a good firearm lubricant. Still, they seem to get tighter (which is kind of funny because you would think they would loosen up), and no amount of cleaning or oil would make them loosen up much. Maybe they just get roughened up or gall. I've got two of them that I retired because they got so tight that they were just unpleasant to use and would break fingernails.

I went and got the two hikers out of the junk drawer. One of them was so tight I had to use a screwdriver in the nail notch to get it open. I put a drop on each side of the blade and one on the backspring/blade junction. I started working the blade back and forth. After 3 or 4 back and forths it got a little easier. Another half dozen back and forths and then just all of a sudden it very noticably got smoother and easier. It's been a couple of hours and I've done all the pivots of both of them. I can't stop playing with them, they open and close like they did when they were brand new.

I know I've just put the stuff on and don't have a long term review yet, but still, one of them was so stiff I had to use a screwdriver to open it. I'm going to take one of them and make it my EDC to see if they continue to open and close easily. I'll update with a longer term trial, but right now I'm jazzed that I've got two knives back in the fold.

This is where I got the NanoLube:

I really don't have anything to gain by shilling the stuff, I'm just passing on something that works.

(as an aside: I guess it's just the carrier oil, but the stuff has kind of an odd, familiar odor that I can't place. It's been bugging me since I opened it.)

Ooops, Moderator please move this. I meant to post it in maintenance and tinkering.

thanks,
lukus
