A few minutes ago a bee got inside one of the vent holes in my Crocs. It stung me on the toe :(

So I hobbled to the medicine cabinet and found nothing suitable. Then I remembered something about meat tenderizer containing MSG. I have none, but I always have plenty of Ramen noodles in the cupboard.

I wetted the area and dumped the contents of the ramen flavor packet onto the wound (MSG is the #2 ingredient in the soup base). It hurts much less now and the swelling seems to have been arrested.

Yet another reason to keep Ramen noodles in the emergency supplies!

EDIT: I didn't know it was a different ingredient in meat tenderizer, not MSG, that was the good stuff. Now I'm wondering if I had the placaebo effect.

Damp baking powder works well for getting the stinger out if it is still stuck in, just let it dry over the sting.

That's really interesting about the ramen flavor pack, I'm rather surprised.

I got stung by a bee for the very first time a week ago on a hike, right on my neck where the jugular is. I had my friend use a credit card to scrap it off. It hurt like hell and initially it swelled up a bit but I left it alone and the swelling went away after a few hours.

Well, I got also stung by a bee and a couple of wasps this year...

A friend of mine told me using comfrey for this. Pressing the leafs in your fingers will help and adding that "sauce" to where the bee stung you, everythings alright. Works also by mosquito-bites and a lot of insects whick were sucking blood from your body

Kind regards

in the army whenever anyone got stung if doc wasn't around with the sting packets we always used nicotine from cigs or dip. just mix it with a tiny bit of water (or spit in a pinch) and rub on the wound. takes all the sting out. also works very well for scorpion's sting as well

My two sons got into a yellow jackets nest and it was ugly. I was out of baking soda which I had used before. I tried toothpaste, the swelling went away within 2 hours.

I have used Activated charcoal with great succes also. just make a paste using some water and the charcoal put it on the stung area and in a few minutes no more pain. Using the plant called plantain works really good to. There are a lot of plants that will work though.

sorry to hear you got stung, that is no fun.

It is not the MSG in meat tenderizer that works it is the papain protein that digests the venom protein.

I wonder if thats in the Ramon noodles packets.

Forunately, I'm not at all allergic to bee's, wasp, hornets, yellow jackets, etc..., so I don't need to use anything.
We have alot of all of these around here and I get stung several times a year, and only swell a little with mild pain. No pain or swelling with a regular bee(honey bee, etc...).
I did get hit by about 10 to 12 yellow jackets(at same time) this summer, and that was a more moderate pain, but not to bad.

getting stung really sucks. My dad got bit/stung by a carpenter bee right on the neck the other day. I always thought they were harmless

Ive been stung a lot. Honey bees are the worst. Ive had to go to the Dr. because of them. Paper wasp do not bother me. Now those little ground hornets / yellow jackets , whatever they are called, have swarmed me twice. Recieved 50 to 100 stings both times. Those stings burn for a couple of hours then itch for a few days.

Ice works great to kill the swelling. Plantain, honey, and even tobacco leaves have also helped me in the past.

Been there, carpenter bee bites suck. Had one take a chunk of skin right out of my arm.
