And found some time to try her out! I wish it bit a little deeper. Does anybody know if the Wicked Edge would work on a knife this big? If not, is there someone here that will reprofile it for a fee? All in all, I'm very impressed with this hunk of steel. The ResC handle is more than comfortable, and I look forward to many years of abusing this wonderful knife/machete/thing:thumbup:

Having never used one of those type of sharpeners, my understanding is that it will work if you do the edge in sections, repositioning the clamp to do a portion of the blade at a time. tyrkon lawson did an AK47 with an EdgePro some years ago, IIRC.

Nice blade !

Yes it will work, but like resinguy said, you'll need to do it in sections.
I don't use one, but have heard of others doing it.

Since I'm a beginner sharpener, I don't trust myself to do it in sections. Can someone recommend a person on the forums less busy then Ban to reprofile this beast?

I have been thinking of buying a cheap belt grinder specifically for sharpening larger blades. The wicked edge although capable is not designed for knives of this size.

I'm thinking about getting one myself and strapping it to the rack of my grizzly. Very cool pics and congrats!

How much would you want it thinned down? I didn't take my 1311 down much at all and it made a big difference. I'd be willing to do yours for free if you take care of shipping both ways.

Browse my pics here and on the Swamp s/f for examples of my work (quite a few in the SR pics thread). I do my work on a cheapy Harbor Freight 1x30 belt sander using 3M Trizact belts and Norton Norax belts, finishing with leather and Green Chromium Oxide compound. Leatherman has seen examples of my work. I also re-did the Kryptoglow Hybrid for Dan at the end of the passaround if you want more pics and another reference.

Sounds awesome! Although I'd like to compensate you for your time. How about I ship it to you, then paypal you $40? $20 for return shipping and $20 for your time? PM inbound.

Wicked edge would be a PITA for a knife that size. You could get a kalamazoo with belts for less money, and that sander does one hell of a job convexing SR101

Nate Blacktail at Knife Mods does very good work at sharpening (especially convex edges). Mine came nack so sharp it hurt just to look at em....... True story! Highly recommended

Daft Slice 1986, SpyderPhreak offered to sharpen for free, if you wish to compensate him, it's best that this conversation move off boards as he does not have a Craftsman membership at this time. Thank you.

Norcalblacktail seems to currently support BladeForums.com with the proper level of membership, so I'll leave this link up.

No worries there Jaxx. I'd go Orange if it became necessary (it's the new Platinum, after all...). ;)

(And PS - I saw your post about that coming even before you posted it. ;))

I didn't want to see you hit with an infraction for offering, especially since you were just offering to do it for nothing. :)

Stripping the coating off helps it sink a little deeper too.

Great pics!
