23rd June at 7:37 my son was born. He and Mom are good and ready to come home. Im already thinking about his first knife. Im thinking about a Chris Reeves small Sebenza.
Wow! You (and jryan76) must feel you have had your world turned upside down. And it's going to take quite a while to correct itself.
As they say, opinions are like butts, everyone has one - and not all of them are used sensibly. So choose the piece of advice you feel most comfortable with:
(a) Hold on and enjoy the best roller-coaster ride you'll ever have; or
(b) Misplace the baby early on so your wife doesn't have time to get too attached!
Congrats to you dad. Have a custom knife made for him with his birthday and time engraved in the spine of the blade. Ok that may be going a bit far, but the first one should be special. CRK can engrave something on the handle though if you ask them.
My first son was born in 1983 and that year Schrade was making some nice trappers with the year on the shield. I bought that knife for him and put it away. I gave it to him when he was 12 or 13. He still has it, along with the original box etc.
He carries a pocket knife every day but I don't think he's ever carried that one very often. Find him something nice and he'll cherish it for along time. It's a nice feeling.
Got two boys myself, ages 5 & 3. Both will get the knife I had in my pocket on the day they were born. Oldest gets a small Benchmade framelock by Mel Pardue, Youngest gets a Al Mar Falcon.
Hey! That's your own little Miracle you have there. Have a cigar on me. And start him out with a Russel barlow. Every little miracle should have one.
