I just had the pleasure of meeting a maker that has been in my sights for many years now, Shiva Ki. I got to visit him in his home and listen to some great stories of his life and look at some amazing pieces of deadly art that he considers knives.

I had a great time and in a few weeks I will have the same experience, cause I was lucky enough to be able to order 2 knives from him. One small Spirit blade and a hunting type knife, named the Deer Slayer, that he made about 25 years ago but never finished.

Guys like Shiva Ki are one of a kind and I consider it a pleasure to have met him.

No photos so I was curious.
So, I went to his website. Wow!
Quite a character. I'd like him on my side when things get rough.

pics or it didn't happen!
:D

Lol....will definitely take pics when I go to pick up my knives

That had to be quite a visit, great that you're getting a couple of knives.

About 10 years ago, ordered a Small Spirit knife from Shiva Ki. I had already been studying JSA for 3 years, and had a pretty good idea of the fundamentals. His approach to martial arts is "different" than anyone else that I have ever met(up to that point, and since), but probably very effective for him. We spent a few hours talking on the phone.

I told him that as soon as the knife arrived, it would be tested on the bamboo growing outside my house. It worked ok, but not as well as I was hoping(skipped on the fiber more than digging in). The knife will probably do a much better job on flesh. Construction and fit were excellent, as was the unexpectedly well-constructed sheath covered with maroon rayskin. Joe Paranee has the knife now, and we are both much happier for it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Shiva Ki builds a knife, but he is more Bill Bagwell than he is Don Fogg.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

STeven, I have never handled a Shiva Ki knife and found your above quoted sentence to be very enlightening.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks Bill....it's just a matter of what you want and are looking for....as there is more time in collecting knives and more knives to study, find that I like those refined, more "artistic" designs and finishes than the down-and-dirty using knives.

Would bet big money that dredd8 knows exactly what he likes and is very much looking forward to getting it from Shiva Ki, who will deliver in spades.

Good thread, Steven, Congrats on the incoming steel ! :)
What kind of wood did you get for the handle on the Spirit blade ?
Looking forward to pics.

Win--Yes, I really enjoyed my visit and I am really looking forward to receiving them both.

STeven--I too thought your Bagwell/Fogg comment was pretty damn funny. You are right, different people, different likes, I really like the style of the Spirit blades. I know "user guys" out there hate "collectors" like I am, the closest that knife will come to cutting anything is if I accidentally cut myself while taking it out of the display case for cleaning. lol

Doug--Thanks, The wood on the Spirit blade is Curly Maple dyed red, a plain handle, not wrapped.

Will post pics when I get em'

Steven,

Hope ya' don't mind me sticking up a pic Jimmy Fikes took of my red curly maple small Spirit blade along
with his similarly sized blade made for testing.

Take It Easy Bro,
