Thanks everyone - I must admit there is a small part of me which rebelled against blatantly buying a non American tool so thanks for not being too hard on me about that. I have no plans to buy one of their axes; I will continue to enjoy restoring and using vintage American ones. This 75 year old body just needed a really efficient tool for splitting; think I found it.
Velvi-cuts are in the same league. There's just not the variety that GB produces.

Can you elaborate? I have never used a GB, am very interested in seeing if the splitters are as good as some claim. I can imagine two ways they could be better- Cheaper lol , and use a standard replacement handle commonly available in the US, I'm interested in your opinion as a owner/ user.That being said they could be even better.
In the interest of full disclosure, the rest of the pile, and there is much more than shows in the picture will at some time involve the use a a hydraulic splitter. There's a bunch of elm there as much as 3' in diameter.![]()
