Yes my pants are dirty. Yes I'm wearing fuzzy brown slippers. Now for the good stuff :)

This is for a good customer and friend. He wanted a hiking climbing doodad, So here it be. It measures 45" long with a 7" OAL head. 2" cutting edge. The haft is textured and dyed Ash coated with tru oil.The top surface of the head is smoothed for comfortable handling and browned for corrosion resistance. I've never made one before and I can see the usefullness of such a tool. Hope he likes it.

Those pants are pretty clean by my standards Mark...

It looks nice. I guess it depends on the type of climbing he does but I have attachment points on mine as well as a spike on the end that can be covered with a screw on cap or crutch tip.

Nice workmanship though, you've got those heads down pat now!

Mark, you might want to ask him if he wants a couple 1/2" holes drilled thru it to clip carribeaners thru? might come in handly during mountaineering :D

Very nice work Mark. Did you put anything on the tip end of the haft?
Regards,
Greg

Thanks Guys. You too Michael :)

I put a nickel-silver disc on the bottom with 5 brass tacks holding it on. Didnt think about a spike or attachment points. I believe the way the head is shaped that you could probably slip a carribeaner over it. It would be kinda handt to tie crap all over it I suppose. Make up a little hobo bag and wrap bebding around it and off ya go.

with a .45 in the bag of course ;)

Looks really cool Mark, and the handle it fantastic. But and this is just my opinion and I don't mean to critize, for a climbing tool I think I would want a bulbed end on the handle so it would be easier to hang on to. But that would be only if its main intentions are for climbing.

Nicely done,

Bill

Great ideas fellas. I think I'll make one for myself just for fun. Heck while were making changes might as well put in a .22 gunbarrel. Just kidding.

Mark: You should of come to the HI you would of made a good additions to the rope cutting contest. We could of renamed it CUT THE MONKEY ON THE STRING. :p ;) :D
Really like the hawk. :D

Nope . I'm still hanging there. :)

Thought about hanging off the side of a bridge with a nice 50 foot droppoff into the Hampton creek just for effect. Decided not to about as quick. I wore my furry slippers just for I.G.

I wonder where he's off to??
you may have turned him on and he's back out in that little blue house again thinking about his Indian trade. :footinmou :D :D

Mark, that fokos is really cool! I have a couple started and put aside, cutting them out of a block of 2" thick slab of 01. It was going good until I think the 01 got a bit work hardened. I think the rivet forge and chisel are going to have to seperate the rest of the steel to cut the two pieces loose.

The bandsaw blade suddenly gave it up. I think the rivet forge and chisel are going to have to seperate the rest of the steel, to cut the two fokos heads loose. Some of us poor folks don't have a plasma cutter.

Mark, that dye/stain job really looks good on the wood, and your proportions are great, too. Folks carried the fokos to fend off wild animals, cut firewood, climb, and probably a lot of camp chores. Excellent forge job there, too. Did you use dye soaked twine for the dark stain?

What I did John, is run the haft on the edge of a 36 grit belt while turning the haft in a clockwise motion and moving the haft up and down. Got the grooves cut the way I wanted then used ebony stain on that area. Then sanded the whole thing down and then dyed it with Fieblings medium brown dye.
