Just received my dotd (11/8).
First reaction - WOW, this feels great. Handle fits my hand like it was made for it. It is light enough that I can handle it with good control, but it still looks and feels like a heavy duty blade (I am not a large guy and some of HIs fine blades are just too big for me).
Second reaction - this is a blem ?? What a deal :)
Now, to put it to work... Too bad it wasn't here before the weekend; now I probably will not get out for days... Oh well, something to look forward to.

Thank you!

Congrats:) The BAS is one of the unsung heroes of the HI line up. They're a jack of all trades blade. Enjoy:thumbup:

Congrats DR-HI's blades are awesome.Enjoy and don't be afraid of putting it to work!

Thanks. Someone (I apologize but I don't remember who) said something to the effect: you will know which HI to get when you see it. It will speak to you. I have been looking at the BAS for a while, and it has been speaking to me since I first saw it. But my mind was on other possibilities until I saw this one last week. Good timing.

Khuks pick their owners;)

Glad you like your BAS, dogrunner!
It's true, these khuks speak to you and will also guide you if you let and listen to them.
They will show you how to use them to the best effect.
The last CAK i got was like magic when it hit my hand. I could instantly feel it fit to my hand and yell...."Keep me, use me, i will serve you well !

That's what happen with my ultimate fight. Had been looking to pick up my first HI. but couldn't decide on a model. I saw a dotd thread with an UF for sale and knew i had to have it. While its probably not what most people would pick as a hard use khurk its certainly built like one. It's my favorite knife I own. Big and heavy enough to chop but light enough that I can choke up on it and do really fine cutting tasks with. I'm an HI fan for life now!

First use this weekend. 6 degrees F, had to wear thick mittens. Trimming a cottonwood tree growing too close to the quonset. 1-1 1/2 inch branches, cut close to main trunk, after trimming the light weight stuff with a Fiddleback Forge machete.
The BAS goes through these branches like they are not even there! Effortless. The blade does the cutting, I don't even need to put extra force into it. One thing I really love about the BAS is it is short enough and light enough to control easily, but has sufficient mass to do serious work. The handle is also perfect for holding onto the knife without a death grip, which is important if I don't want my finger blood supply shutting off in these temps. Of course, helps minimize fatique too.
A great khukuri! Very pleased.
