Nice pieces. Do you still have the dirk up for sale? Couldn't find it.

Keith,

That dirk was made a few years before James Bowie hit puberty by a well known surgical knife maker in Edinburgh. It is an old military dirk made at the point at which these knives had just started to be transformed from instruments of combat to articles of dress.

I put those three pieces up on the front page to remind me of why I am swapping or selling some of the other stuff. They are not for sale, but as with everything else, if the right offer comes along, all bets are off. :)

OK, Brendan, what is it: i.e. who is the maker, what model is it, other ancillary info?

The maker is Dale J. Holland, and the blade material is one of: 440-C/CM-154/ATS-34. Dale was a part time maker best known for his folding knives. See Ken Warner's Knives Annuals through 1998 for details.

It is a nice knife.

BTW, I just added a copy of Mike Chappell's book on Gurkhas to my page along with a number of magazines..... (I admit it - its fun)

Dale Holland Custom Fighter :

Blade length is 6 inches ~ 15cm
The OAL is 12 inches ~ 30cm
Blade thickness is 3/16 inches ~ .5cm

BTW, the maker (actually Dale J. Holland) was listed in the knives annuals
from 1984 - 1997. He use to specialize in fancy folders, so this is an odd
(and probably a early) one for him. He was a part time knife maker and he
usually worked with 440-C, 154CM, and ATS-34. His folders use to sell up in
the $450.00 range so he couldn't have been too shabby.

The handle material is a high density synthetic. It feels like G10, or
perhaps the stuff Buck Knives used on their knives.
