Hello, I just joined up and I'm looking forward to learning from everyone. There seems to be a lot of knowledgeable folks on here. This winter I started collecting draw knives and hatchets. I'm up to a dozen draw knives but only a few hatchets so far. I'm big into making osage bows and use both tools quite a bit. I've been working on a couple of projects over the last few days. I'm bringing a Craftsman mini hatchet back to life. I made a new handle for it out of curly osage. I have also been fixing up a throwing hawk. As soon as I'm done with them I'll post some pictures.

Welcome! This forum is a fantastic place to share and learn. I've been here 6 months and know %1000 more than I did and %20 as much as some here still have to share. You have come to the right place.

The curly osage is some beautiful wood. It has an iridescent look to it. The dark and light lines shift as you move it in the light. I'm trying to figure out how to make a sheath for the mini hatchet tonight. What would work for a wedge on such a small hatchet? I was thinking about cutting the head off of a nail and hammering a 1/2" long section of the shaft flat and then using that as a wedge. The eye on this thing is tiny.
