Hi, all! Its my first day today, just wanted to say Hello. Ive spent the last couple of nights looking thru the archives at discussions on BK7/9s, Battle rats, and Hiking Staffs! My main area of interest is Survival Knives & Survival kits. Im currently awaiting delivery of a Swamp Rat Battle Rat, which Im gonna "piggy-back" a Nylon pouch onto to carry my survival gear. Got the idea from a chap called Mike Spinak who, (I think!) writes mainly photographic articles, his kit, & self-modified sheath are superb.
Anyway, nice to "meet" you all & I look forward to discussing Survival kits/knives etc with you all soon!

All the best - Stu

PS Ive imported Starflash mirrors & Spark-rites so far from the US, What excellent pieces of kit!

Here's waving at ya Stu. Welcome, looking forward to your posts. Have you been to British Blades or bushcraftuk.co.uk ? Lots of good info and some excellent people involved on your side of the pond.

I havent visited either of those Brit sites, but I'll check em out now, thanx!
I also like the kukri, I modified one based on the ideas of a guy in the the states called M4040, made a new sheath etc & added a double edge near the tip, its some blade & throws beautifully, too! But I cant wait for my battle rat to arrive.
Hope to chat soon. All the best - Stu.

Hello! And welcome. We are glad to have you here and look forward to your future posts.

Stu,

Welcome to the board. I'm a big fan of kit knives too. I'm currently working on my BK-7 as the ultimate kit knife. I''ll post it here when I'm finished. Mac

Stu,

Welcome, from one new guy to another. ;) If you are into survival knives I would recommend looking into a Linger WSK.

Frank

Thanks for your welcome! Ive also built a Survival Kit around a BK7, with a pouch on the back of the sheath to supplemrnt the main sheathpouch, but thinking of getting a Survival sheath from Spec-ops coz i bought a THE Wallet from em and the service was excellent!
Ive not heard of a Linger WSK but I'll have a rumage around to see what I can find. Ive got quite a collection of blades now, absolutely cant wait for my battle rat to arrive & one of my next projects is going to be a survival machete, as I feel the large sheath would lend itself well to holding tonnes of gear in pouchs & loops!
I wish Id bought a Buckmaster when they were available too, I know they recd mixed reports but (grappling iron features aside!!) I think it seemed pretty good!
I usually carry a SAK Explorer at work, An Applegate-Fairbairn Covert folder when in my scruffs, and a Leatherman wave when I can wear it on a belt under a jacket, so its hidden from our good old boys in blue!
IF Im off to a nightclub, I usually carry a rather beaten up AG Russell CIA letter-opener or a Delta Dart, also have a CAT Tanto but its a little on the large side!

I SO wish Id bought an AG Russell Sting 1A when they were around, surely theres a market for these. Mr Russell, get your finger out & start making em again! I use a Kershaw Amphibian as boot/small of back knife at the moment!

All the best - Stu

(Phew, Sorry to ramble on, Im a Salesman & my mouth runs away with itself sometimes!!!)

Real purdy!!!!!!

Ive seen the Tom Brown Tracker before, its on my wish list, Heinnie Haines sell it for £250 in the UK. But Im also looking at some of Greg Lightfoots designs, The Nightstrike looks pretty nifty! And I really want a MOD Trident!
(And although theyre TOTALLY illegal in Britain, Id lurve a Microtech Halo!!

SO MANY KNIVES, SO LITTLE TIME!!

Thanks, Stu, that's kind of you to say.

By the way, I write about other subjects besides outdoor photography, too--mainly about non-biological applications of evolutionary theory.

Stu,

Welcome aboard! We have great people here in our forum, and though I don't have an opportunity to post as much as I'd like, I read the forum constantly and learn from the group here everyday.

Enjoy!

Best,

Brian.

I also like the kukri, I modified one based on the ideas of a guy in the the states called M4040, made a new sheath etc & added a double edge near the tip, its some blade & throws beautifully, too!

Hi, Mike. Great to hear from you, I stumbled across your two Survival Kit articles doing a google search for "survival kit", and Ive made something very similar using a Garmin GPS pouch mounted on the front of my BK9, and will mount one on my Battle Rat (When it ruddy gets here!!).
Eventually, I'll custom-make a sheath, but I tend to do all my sewing by hand so it takes me a while.
I'll check out some of your other articles too, Ive got a really good friend (shes cute, too!) in Saskatchewan & she's getting me more interested in the environment, too!

Hi, Todd. Thanks for your welcome, look forward to seeing your Kukri pics, mate.

I checked out your posting on Rat Chat, too. Very interesting reading. I contacted Avexa in Switzerland & (with typical Swiss efficiency & politeness!) received details of how to get a Freelight, but havent got one, yet!
Nice to see that someone else has a pic of their loved ones in a Survival Kit, too. I have a pic of Laura, my pen/girlfriend in Saskatchewan.

Good talking to you, and thanks for getting in touch re: your Survival kits.
