I was playing with my new 300-1 flipper and was having a hard time. I couldn't get the blade to flip all the way out with the thumb stud and i couldn't get the blade to flip all the way out pressing on the flipper lever (whereas a little press on my ZT350 flipper lever and the blade snaps out and locks).

Anyway, so i'm trying to get the blade on my 300-1 to flip out and lock with no luck when i snapped my wrist and the blade came out and locked without touching the thumb stud. I tried it again and found that i can easily flip the blade out just by whipping my wrist. No need to even tough the thumb stud! Just use a motion like you use when throwing a Frisbee.

Hmmmm... Could this also work on my new 940-1? Yep. Blade flips out and locks just by whipping my wrist. No need to touch the thumb stud.

This only seems to work on non-assisted Benchmades. Does not work on my Barrage or Volli.
Doesn'nt work either with my ZT350.

I'm guessing i will get a bunch of responses saying duh, everyone knows you can open a non assist benchmade like this, but it's new to me.

The old flick wrist opening method is very useful for flippers with weak detents. For regular non-assist Benchmades it also works pretty good depending on the weight of the blade. With the Contego it flies out.

Welcome to the world of the Axis Lock! Remember you can also pull back on the lock and flick it open even easier just make sure to quickly release the lock so the blade locks into place once it swings all the way out. You can also pull back on the lock to close it and flick it closed without much effort. Spent countless hours snapping my 710 open and closed without touching the blade this way.

That can be dangerous if you live in areas where "gravity knives" are illegal. An uninformed LEO can ruin your day.

RevD is spot on as usual. Know your local laws and tighten that pivot if necessary. Luckily there's more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to opening the 300.

It's actually against the law in some states to have a knife with a locking blade? How do you people that live up North put up with this crap and why do you keep re-electing these Stalinist libtards that make these laws... Incredible.

I traded a knife with a guy in Canada once and he asked me to tighten the blade pivot down to the point where you could barely open the knife. He explained that Canadian customs will confiscate a knife that can be flicked open with a wrist snap.

A gravity knife is classified as an auto....it means the blade drops free by gravity. Has nothing to do with a locking blade.

actually blades that open with rotational force are considered gravity knives in certain states. that's why I had to stop carrying my benchmades in jersey. is it ridiculous , yes. but it's true
