Jeff came by my shop on Saturday; he walked right in and handed me this knife. "Would you like this back?" is what he said. I took the knife in hand and recognized it as one that had been donated to the local VFD for their spring festival auction, in 2006.
Jeff told me that he had purchased the knife from a friend who had bought it at an estate auction. His friend told him he really didn't need another knife; when Jeff asked him about selling it. He sold it to Jeff for the hundred dollars he'd paid at auction.
I sent the knife home with Jeff; he has a few of my blades. I thanked him for his offer.
Having the knife show up at the shop was like seeing an old friend; having Jeff come by that day, was like many other days we've spent together, priceless.
