Agh. Went to toss my Cold Steel filet knife from the boat onto the dock, and instead watched it hit the edge of the dock and fall in the water. Of course I leapt to the edge, but alas, my reflexes were not enough. *Sigh* Guess I'll just have to buy another one.

...So, what was stopping you from jumping in the water after it?.

Just figure it was a gift (OK, a toll) to the River Gods. Every year I donate something, such as a compass, sunglasses (always a favorite), fly reel, fly book, the occasional fishing rod.

Sorry to hear about the lost knife, but at least it's an excuse to buy a new one.

Don't discount jumping in after stuff, There's been three times that I've looked over the side of the boat and had my glasses come STRAIGHT off my face and into the water, and one time that my BM AFCK hit the water.
Every time, I've managed to get to what I was after before it made it to the bottom.

You gotta WANT it!
LOL
HECK with making an offering to the River Spirits! When they start throwing fish in my boat, I'll start tossing stuff out.

Saw an article once on a guy who always drags a big magnet when out fishing. Over years, he's come up with shotguns, lures, knives, even a trolling motor!

Well, there were a few things stopping me from jumping in, strong tide, a lot of poles covered in oysters and barnacles, and a bottom covered in who knows what. I'll probably try to go after it one day when the tide is out, or when I can get one of those nifty magnets

. Come to think of it, I've sacrificed quite a few knives to the water gods, along with a few multitools. Oh well, guess it brings me luck. The other mate and I actually did dive over one year to try and find a set of keys that would have hooked us up with $250. Alas, we never found them.

At the bottom of that lake sits a water troll with a lot of nice knives!

I once saw two guys loose a new mercury motor from the back of a small boat. They apparently didn't tighten it enough. The last I saw they were using a drag to try and recover it.
